WLWV Community Update

March 11, 2019

Calendar Changes — Last Day of School Now June 11.

Due to snow days on February 5th and February 27, the last day of school is now Tuesday, June 11 for all WLWV schools. Three days were built into the 2018-19 calendar to be used in the event of Snow Days. If the district experiences more than one additional snow day this school year, alternative school calendar considerations will be made. Visit the district website to review the 2018-19 school calendar.

News from Nutrition Services

West Linn-Wilsonville cafeterias are serving local "Makah Ozette" potatoes grown in Oregon City this week only. Enjoy these fun and unique potatoes while supporting our local farmers!

Conquistadores brought Makah Ozette potatoes to the Northwest from South America in 1791. School cafeterias use kosher salt and a little bit of garlic to make flavors pop. Learn more about the Nutrition Services Department on the District Website.

Safety Spotlight — SafeOregon Tip Line

The SafeOregon Tip Line provides an anonymous reporting resource for students.

The goal of the SafeOregon tip line is to prevent threats to school safety by providing schools and communities with a relevant reporting tool. Tips can be submitted by students through email, phone, text messages, the Safe Oregon mobile app or web portal. Tips are quickly reviewed by SafeOregon technicians, and are then passed to school administrators and local law enforcement agencies. If the tip requires an urgent response, technicians from Safe Oregon will call 911 for immediate help, as well as provide information to West Linn-Wilsonville school administration or school officials.

West Linn-Wilsonville administration will respond to all tips in an appropriate and timely matter, which can include gathering more information, communicating with key stakeholders, using the District Threat Assessment System, using the District Suicide Risk Assessment process, connecting the student with additional resources, contacting law enforcement, or any other responses that are appropriate.

You can learn more about Safe Oregon at http://safeoregon.com/, or contact your child’s counselor for more information.
