Good Things
Dear T.E.A.M. :
With the first quarter in the rear-view mirror, and as we edge ever-closer to our Parent-Teacher Conferences and Thanksgiving Recess, this week's Monday Memo includes an additional installment of resources aimed at strengthening our abilities to appreciate adolescents and connect with families.
Something that I've found myself doing more and more, with each passing week, has been noticing and enjoying the "good things". For me, this spans a wide range. This week, it was about visiting a college campus with 7th grade students, experimenting with classroom practices that make a difference, seeing teachers come out on their own personal time to publicly support our students for their accomplishments, or having powerful, meaningful conversations with a parent or a teacher. These "little things" make a big difference!
Just today, a mentor of mine shared the following article, which I encourage you to read consider, and share with your respective teams. You may find it especially pertinent as we head into the at-times frenetic holiday season. The article is entitled: "The Powerful Effect of Noticing Good Things at Work": https://hbr.org/2015/09/the-powerful-effect-of-noticing-good-things-at-work?utm_campaign=HBR&utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social . If you read it, I'd love to know what you think.
Thank you for your dedication to our students and our middle school program.
Sincerely,
Dennis
