This Week in Kindergarten
This week, student learning was focused on map/globe skills. They used this time to participate in shared research and writing which is a kindergarten assessed skill. They also worked on rhyming words and read several nursery rhymes as well as books with rhymes. We also worked on stretching out our words as we write. Ask your child to sound out a simple CVC word such at c-a-t or f-a-n. They are doing a really great job listening to all of the sounds they hear!
In math, students spent time exploring numbers to 100. Students worked on counting to 100 by ones and tens. Students played math games and participated in a variety of math centers focused on these skills.

A Message from Transportation
As a point of safety for our kindergarten students who ride the bus, a parent or guardian must meet the bus in the afternoons at the bus stop. If the parent is not at the stop, the kindergartener will be returned to school for parent pick-up. Exception: kindergarten students will be dropped off at their stop if they have an older sibling riding the bus with them. The bus supervisor, Tammy Daniel, may be reached through email should you have any questions or concerns with this protocol - tammy_daniel@gwinnett.k12.ga.us
Guided Reading
When reading with your child, please do not cover up the pictures! Students are taught to look at the pictures to help them figure out "tricky words." You can encourage your child to check the picture by prompting them to use their "eagle eye." Also, students need to use their finger to touch and read each word. This one-to-one correspondence helps encourage young readers to read through words and to independently self-correct.
