We appreciate our teachers

National Teacher Appreciation Week is May 1-May 5. In addition to a delicious luncheon, we also will recognize our teachers with simple gestures throughout the week. You should have received an e-mail from your child's room parent with more details. If you didn't receive an e-mail or would like more information, please reach out to your room parent or to Rachel Bailey at mooreracheld@hotmail.com or Kristin Olson at kolson1@me.com.

All Hands On Deck for Explore More Day!

Email us at emd@madisonschoolpta.org to let us know if you can help in the morning, afternoon or all day. There's a free lunch for everyone who participates!

Thank you to everyone who volunteered during class registration

"Put that math away"

Math Club 2016-2017 was a hit! Students explored mind boggling topics such as the Fibonacci sequence, enjoyed playing fun games, and showcased their pi-reciting talents during the week of National Pi Day. In April, students were being asked by their teachers to put away their hexaflexagons because they couldn't stop flexing! Rarely do you hear, "Put that math away!"

We consistently served 70+ students and were able to help them explore new ideas and ways of thinking that will hopefully continue to inspire them. We have moms, dads, grandmas and parents whose children have moved on from Madison as a part of our team. Mrs. Christina Hull, Madison's PACE teacher, developed and delivered most of the curriculum, with the exception of "Hour of Code," which was presented by Mr. Jim Fiaroto.

Thank you to all the amazing volunteers who took the time to help make Math Club such a success:

Rachel Bailey, Joo Chang, Monica Fahey, Jim Fiorato, Jody Gosain, Nicole Klotz, Sri Mallu, Janet Mathis, Linda Moore, Anne Nigrelli, Susan Nordmark, Mark Priebe, Tone Rosen, Vandana Sharma, and Jaime Szafranski.

Conservation Committee earns flag

The Conservation Committee is excited to be part of earning an Earth Ecology Flag from the Glen Ellyn based SCARCE (School & Community Assistance for Recycling and Composting Education). The Committee implemented composting in the lunchroom, created an Earth Day display, participated in tree plantings, and created awareness about the importance of recycling and composting in the school, all of which have earned Madison this flag. In addition, Mrs. Graham worked with 2nd grade students to research and develop a video about environmental issues and solutions that will be presented to the school along with a presentation by SCARCE educators. On May 30, SCARCE will present the Earth Ecology flag to Madison students at an all school assembly.

The Conservation Committee would like to thank Todd Jacobson and the Morton Arboretum for donating two trees that the students planted to celebrate Earth and Arbor Day. Each Madison student was also given a coupon for a free admission to the Morton Arboretum.

Submit your inspiration nominations

Are you the parent of a child who has been inspired by a District 200 teacher or staff member? With your child, take a minute to tell us about it.

Over a year ago, the PTA Council and the Superintendent's Office developed the Inspiration Nomination program to honor our District 200 staff members and acknowledge all that they do for our students. Forms are available in the Madison office, or you can can download the form here and submit it to Erica Loiacono at erica.loiacono@cusd200.org. You can either email a scanned copy (or photo) to erica.loiacono@cusd200.org, or you can turn it into the PTA President mailbox.

Any Inspiration Nomination received will be shared with the staff member nominated along with recognition by the Superintendent and PTA Council.
