Principal's Message

Dear Edison Families,

As we wind down on our first month of this school year I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone for their positive energy and support. The words of appreciation, adapting to new traffic patterns, pick up and drop off routines, donation of school supplies, treats, and the incredible cooperation on our drive to have 100% of our families complete this online form ( have been truly uplifting for all of us here at Edison.

This positive school climate is somewhat of a hallmark for us and a true testament to the partnership we work hard to maintain with our Edison faithful -- thank you!

Speaking of partnerships, I’ve shared before that our phenomenal Parent Faculty Organization (PFO) spearheads our fundraising and family engagement efforts each year, and I am thrilled that our committed parents are already thinking of how we can support all kids this year. We could use your ideas and support!

Join us for our first PFO meeting Friday, September 3 at 4:00 pm on Zoom. Be sure to become a member of this amazing group, support your child this year!

Lastly, I am excited to share that Edison is once again implementing a Mathematics and Reading program called i-Ready. Below, you will find information about the program and how we will be using it here at Edison.

Once again, thank you for your continued support and for being a partner in your child’s learning! We look forward to sharing i-Ready information with you throughout the year. If you have any questions about i-Ready, please do not hesitate to contact me or your child’s teacher.

What is i-Ready?

i-Ready is an online program that will help us determine your child’s strengths and areas for growth, personalize their learning, and monitor their progress throughout the school year. i-Ready allows us to meet your child where they are and provides us with data to inform instruction.

The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your child’s needs. Each item a student receives is based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier ones. The purpose of this is not to give your child a score or grade but to determine how to best support their learning.

i-Ready Instruction provides students with lessons based on their individual strengths and areas for growth. These lessons are interactive and provide strategic supports to keep your child engaged as they learn.

What can I do to help?

To support your child’s learning in Online Instruction, you can:

  • Discuss your child’s progress on their i-Ready lessons.
  • Celebrate your child’s learning and growth.

  • Encourage them to use i-Ready at home.

    • They will need access to a computer or iPad®, internet, and their login information. To check if your system meets i-Ready system requirements, please visit to run a system check.

Water Balloon Principal Lopez

By popular demand, teachers really want to water balloon our principal too! We’ve extended the deadline, to complete your families online form, to September 3.

By completing the form, you will not only help our school continue to provide amazing opportunities for kids and greatly contribute to enabling us to better serve all of our families. Better still, you will give your child an opportunity to throw a water balloon at the Principal. Yup, you read that right, we challenged our Bobcats to get their form in and they’ll get a water balloon to throw at me. If their class gets 100% submitted we’ll let their teacher throw one too -- should be awesome :)

If you need any assistance with filling out the form, please call our school office at 909-984-5618 and we will be happy to help you complete the form over the phone. It’s pretty quick, is very important to our school, your child, and we are counting on you to help out.

Lead the Way Safety Today:

Our “Lead the Way – Safety Today” video series has been created with students in mind and as an additional resource for our families. We hope you find these videos helpful and serve as a reminder of OMSD’s Multi-Layered Mitigation Strategies. You may visit our website to view the video or click here

Student Symptom Decision Tree

The district will adhere to the San Bernardino County Health Care Agencies (SBCDPH) Student Symptom Decision Tree when assessing student symptoms. The Student Symptom Decision Tree is a nationally recognized tool that has been endorsed by the SBCPH. Please review the document to better understand which symptoms will be assessed when students are sent to the health office. Click here to view it in English and here for Spanish.

Students Presenting Symptoms at Home

In an effort to maintain a healthy school environment and to mitigate the spread of the COVID-19 virus, we ask that all parents screen their child for COVID-19 symptoms each morning before they send them to school, and keep them at home if they are sick using our Daily Checklist for Families.

This shared responsibility is critical to our ability to keep everyone safe, healthy and attending in person each day.

Please report your child’s illness with details of all symptoms to our health office at 909-984-5618. Our Health Office will follow up on all students that are at home with COVID-19 symptoms.

Contact Tracing: What happens when a school site is notified of a confirmed COVID-19 case?

When we have a confirmed student case of COVID-19 and have exposed others at the school, the following steps (contact tracing) will be implemented with the support of our District COVID Action Team (CAT):

  • The District COVID Action Team (CAT) will first determine who is a close contact or low-risk contact of the staff/student who tested positive and will determine if the person that tested positive was on campus during the infectious period.
  • The District COVID Action Team (CAT) will work collaboratively with the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health (SBCDPH) on contact tracing and decisions made based on confidential reporting of the staff/student’s specific COVID-19 illness and infectious period.
  • In consultation with SBCDPH, letters of notification for Confirmed COVID-19 cases will be sent to:
  • Low Risk Contacts: all families in the impacted classroom. This notice would explain the confirmed case is isolating at home for the duration of the illness as specified by San Bernardino County Department of Public Health (SBCDPH) guidelines, and that all school areas where the case spent time will be cleaned and disinfected before they are in use again. Your child will continue attending class.
  • Close Contacts: will receive notification that the contact was considered close and recommend home quarantine and COVID-19 testing. All cases must be cleared by the school nurse prior to returning.
