6th Grade Patriot's Pen Winners
Each year more than 165,400 students in grades 6-8 enter the VFW’s Patriot’s Pen youth essay contest for a chance to win their share of more than $1.4 million in state and national awards. Each first place state winner receives a minimum of $500 at the national level, and the national first place winner wins $5,000!
The essay contest encourages young minds to examine America’s history, along with their own experiences in modern American society, by drafting a 300- to 400-word essay, expressing their views based on a patriotic theme chosen by the VFW Commander-in-Chief.
1st Place Winner Casey Lusk
2nd Place Winner Myah Facciolla
3rd Place Winner Adalynn Davis
Winter Weather and Indoor Line Up
Please be sure to send your child prepared to be out in the cold weather and snow this Winter. We do outdoor lineup and recesses all winter as long as the wind chill is above 10 degrees. Heavy coats, boots, snow pants, gloves, and hat/hood are needed each day! It is also good practice to keep an extra set of clothing in your child's back pack (regardless of the grade). We do not have clothes to provide your child. Please make sure to check the Lost and Found before those items are removed.
Look for the red flag outside the building to indicate when we have indoor line up. Students will enter through the main entrance on these days beginning at 8:20.
Keeping Illness Out of School
Please remember that aside from Covid-19, many other illnesses are also contagious, so students who are sick should not be at school with colds, Strep throat, the flu, or stomach bugs either.
A fever is a sign of some form of infection. Children should remain home if running a fever. A child must be fever-free for 24 hours without the benefit of medication (i.e. Tylenol) before returning to school.
If a child vomits, they may not return to school until he/she is symptom-free for at least 24 hours.
Also, PLEASE continue to notify us at (586) 439-6800 if your child tests positive for Covid-19 or has been in contact with someone who has. It is crucial that we have this information and keep sick people at home to help us keep healthy teachers and students at school teaching and learning.
