Reading/Math
The students continue to spend 15-20 minutes of solid reading each day. Some days are better than others with our stamina, but the kids have done great this year and are certainly enjoying the books. Remember, the expectation is that students will know almost all of the 60 power words before school is out. (We'll discuss this more at conferences.) These are not words kids should be trying to sound out. They occur so frequently in print, they should be recognized immediately. Please try to spend a few minutes each night reading the books in their blue bags. Every little bit counts! Feel free to do other stories too that you read to them. When I was a beginning teacher, one of my mentors always said, "Children who are read to become good readers."
We are continuing Unit 4 in math. We are doing a lot with +/- equations, continuing to practice teen numbers and are introducing 3D shapes. Your child should easily be able to write all the teen numbers.
