Cline Connection

January 2023

THROUGH AUTHENTIC EXPERIENCES AND RELATIONSHIPS, FISD WILL GRADUATE CONFIDENT LEARNERS EQUIPPED WITH THE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND CHARACTER TO THRIVE IN AND CONTRIBUTE TO A GLOBAL SOCIETY.

Happy New Year!

School is back in full swing and it is great to see all of the students smiling faces again. The spring semester always seems to go by so fast, but it is also a time of great growth for many of our young readers. Keep reading together as a family and encourage your child to read on their own as much as possible. Reading 20 minutes a day at home will expose your child to over 1,800,000 more words over the course of their educational years. Students who read this amount are most likely to score in the 90% percentile on standardized tests.

As you can see from the above pictures, the new Cline Elementary is coming along. You can now see the brick walls in place around the kitchen, cafeteria, and gym. We are starting our planning for programs, clubs, schedules etc. and can't wait for teachers and students be able to walk into a new building.

Christmas tradition of partnering with Blue Santa

What another great toy drive! Sargeant Kimberly said that this year there was a greater need for toys that in the past! What a great way for our students to learn about the importance of giving and just another way to fill buckets!

Tardy!

Grit and Perseverance

Recently we have noticed an uptick in tardies. Our daily average tardy count is approaching 3%.

With the recent holidays and all of the special events, late nights and celebrations it is easy to fall into a that routine of just hitting the snooze button. We encourage you to not let that become a habit. A habit that unfortunately sends the unintended message that it's not important to be on time to school, work etc.

At Cline, we believe in fostering a learner profile of respect, grit/perseverance, collaboration, citizenship and responsibility. When you as a family make it a "big deal" to be on time to school, you are instilling grit and perseverance in your child and to have a strong work ethic, to be resilient when things get tough.

If students are struggling to get up and "do their part" use the words that they are showing responsibility by getting up and getting ready by themselves and doing this without being told.

Cline Ponies show respect, work with others, demonstrate citizenship, are responsible and have grit!

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) update

The FISD Office of Communications Team has worked hard on the FISD SEL webpage to update the SEL curriculum parent page. Click on the link to learn more.

We define social and emotional learning (SEL) as an integral part of education and human development. SEL is the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions. *Casel.org
