Counselor's Corner: Friendship and Bullying
This month's counseling theme is friendship and bullying. Using the book One by Kathryn Otoshi, each class discussed how mutual respect builds strong friendships. Classes also discussed the differences between a conflict and bullying. A conflict is a disagreement where each party is empowered and there is no intent to cause harm. If handled respectfully, conflicts are a healthy and normal part of growing up.
Bullying, however, is one-sided, with the intent to cause harm, and often in a recurring pattern. This distinction is often difficult to recognize, especially as intent and context may not be immediately evident in an isolated incident.
Finally, each class discussed the difference between being an upstander and a bystander. Upstanders stand up for others and themselves when they are being treated disrespectfully. Bystanders are those who choose to not stand up for others. Being an upstander takes courage and care, and is so important to making Forest Hills a safe and inclusive environment. We ended our time together by declaring that we ALL have a duty to be an upstander.
Lost and Found
If your child is missing a sweatshirt, coat, or other item, encourage them to make a visit to the Lost and Found, or make a visit yourself. The Lost and Found is located near the library and 1st/2nd grade hallway. As we get closer to winter break, the Lost and Found will be moved to the front entrance for immediate access. Please note that any items remaining after we dismiss for winter break will be donated.
FH Yearbook: Upload Great Pictures! (Repeat)
Even if you have not volunteered to be a "classroom photographer" we would love to use your photos for the yearbook. To make picture sharing as easy as possible, we are using an app called ImageShare, which is available for both Apple and Android users.
ImageShare Let's Get Started Instructions
After creating an ImageShare account, you will need a project number. Our ImageShare project number is 925490.
A few tips to take great pictures:
1. Students and staff only
2. Close up pictures are better
3. Higher resolution is best. Avoid highly zoomed phone photos.
3. We want to see faces and smiles
4. We want to see them doing what they do in class, at parties, field trips, etc.
5. Ask teachers for permission to come in to take photos
6. Include as much detail as you know in your upload when prompted for the student name, location and details. If you do not know, leave it blank.
If you have any questions feel free to contact Jen Brown or Leslie Kilian!
Local Option Levy Community Feedback (Repeat)
If you haven't already, please consider taking the 5-minute Local Option Level Survey. The survey will give the District direction about future programming choices and educational priorities. It will be open until December 15, 2018. You can find more information on the district website.

Celebrate Bryant Elementary
After 52 years of faithful service, Bryant Elementary School will be demolished to make way for the new Lakeridge Junior High. Join us for an ice cream social to celebrate the student and staff who made Bryant Elementary such a special place. Memorabilia and yearbooks from decades past will be available to view. A short speaking program will be held at 3:00pm.
Many past students have artwork installed throughout the Bryant campus, including tiles, mosaics, and murals. LOSD is working with the Arts Council of Lake Oswego to document this art. Past students are invited to come take pictures of their own tiles and share memories of their times at Bryant. Pictures can be sent to this Google Photos Album.
