KMS Up2Date

Principal's Message
As you all know KMS was engaged in a full distance learning day on Friday, November 13. The decision was made after we were contacted by the RI Department of Health late Thursday afternoon and asked to assist in contact tracing. Please understand that this latest incident involved one individual from KMS who contracted the virus outside of school. We have not had any individuals contract the virus from being in our building. We are so very PROUD of the efforts our students and staff have made each and every day by being committed to our wellbeing.
As a school community, we stringently enforce the mandates and guidelines from RIDOH and RIDE. Students and staff wear their masks. We have bathroom breaks and hand washing breaks. Students and staff maintain social distance at all times. Hand sanitizing stations are strategically located within the building. Desks are spaced at a minimum of 6 feet apart. Students eat lunch at the same seat with the same pod every day. We have done everything possible to keep our students and staff safe and healthy. We now look to members of our community to do the same so that our kids can remain healthy and continue to learn in our educational setting.
I know this hasn't been easy for any of us, myself included. But together we can do our part to reduce the rate of infections.
Sincerely,
Dennis Morrell

Important Health Updates from Nurse Welchman
Friday 11/6/20
Good Morning KMS Community,
I want to start off by saying thank you to all parents and staff for keeping me updated on COVID 19 related information (symptoms, testing, quarantine) daily so that I can provide guidance and keep us all safe. Whether in person or virtual this data is helping us with surveillance and assess for any outbreaks. Masks, distance, ventilation, hand washing and increased cleaning are keeping students and staff protected.
It has come to our attention in the district and state that too many times individuals going for COVID-19 testing are having difficulty obtaining test results on Dominion Diagnostics website because the patient's name or date of birth is incorrect.
This makes it impossible to obtain results yourself and requires individuals to contact the RI Department of Health (RIDOH) to get results. As a result, it is taking much longer to obtain results as RIDOH is inundated with calls. Staff and students are missing work/school and are frustrated.
It is our recommendation to help reduce human error, to show your driver's license for adults and for students and/or adults getting tested PRINT clearly in bold letters on an index card or piece of paper: First and Last name and Date of Birth and display for the intake person at testing sites. They will not be able to take cards or paper from you due to safety precautions put in place. This will hopefully help with miss spelled names and incorrect dates of birth.
When calling to set up a testing appointment make sure they repeat back the correct spelling of the name of the individual being tested and their date of birth.
Hope this helps staff and families avoid an unfortunate mistake.
Testing Hotline for K-12 staff and students is 844-857-1814.
Hours of Operation: 7:30 am - 9:30 pm seven days a week.
School Nurses NEED from you to return to school/work:
1. Rapid Test results for individuals with symptoms
2. PCR Test results for everyone that has been tested (symptomatic or asymptomatic)
3. After Illness Attestation Form completed: You attest that individuals that have been isolated or on quarantine are ready to return to school/work, are free of COVID 19 symptoms, if tested, test results have been sent to school nurse, have completed isolation or quarantine per RIDOH guidelines, are fever free x 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications.
Hope this helps.
Sincerely,
Erin Welchman M.Ed, BSN, RN, RICSNT
