A Note from the Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I would like to start with the most important highlights of the week: Curriculum nights. This week you are all invited to Curriculum nights that will be held at Campus on Tuesday and Thursday. We also have ESL parent meeting and Title I meetings this week.
Another important item of the week is the Tutorials. As I expressed my feelings earlier about testing that we are not teaching students at the campus for testing and our priority is not testing, however, this is the state reality that every student are expected to show they are growing in knowledge. There is the only way to show this to state is STAAR testing. Let's rock the test with your help. a quote say: "My parents always made education and school the number one priority. They believed that an education is the best gift you can give to your child."
Thank you so much for allowing our teachers into your homes for home visits. It is so important for us to have a strong relationship between the school and home so that we can better serve our students and families.
There are so many benefits to home visits. Students perform better academically and develop a higher level of respect for their teachers and school. Parents are more informed and become more engaged in school activities. Teachers feel more confident knowing that they have parents' full support and assistance in their students' academic journey. Everyone gets something out of the experience.
If you would like to schedule a home visit with your child's teacher or with an administrator, please contact the front office or email our engagement coordinator, Ms. Knieling, at (jknieling@harmonytx.org).
I am also available to visit your home! You may request a home visit with me, and I will gladly accept the invitation!
Thank you,
Have a wonderful week.
Mr. Ilker Fidan, M.Ed

Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) Information
In accordance with the Texas State Plan for the Education of Gifted/Talented students, Harmony Public Schools will begin taking referrals for kindergarten and newly-enrolled students in grades 1-12 for gifted and talented screening. Anyone interested in the educational welfare of these students may refer them for assessment.
Referral forms are available at the front office and on the school's web site. The forms must be returned to the front office by Friday, September 27, 2019. The assessment period will begin on Tuesday, October 1, 2019.
Criteria for Gifted/Talented Pre-screening
Our campus uses NWEA MAP as a pre-screening criterion for CogAT testing (GT Student Handbook page 7). Students are eligible to be tested (CogAT) for the Gifted/Talented program (criterion varies for students enrolled in Special Programs) if the student's percentile rank of any of the NWEA MAP scores in Reading, Math or Science is greater or equal to 80 (NWEA MAP score at the 80th percentile).
At this time, if your child’s MAP scores do not meet the criterion of the pre-screening process, he/she will not be considered for our Gifted/Talented program. You may consider nominating your child again during the next applicable nomination window.
Home Visits
Harmony School of Excellence is proud to participate in the Home Visit Program! Home Visits build relationships between the school and the home in order to better meet the needs of students. During a Home Visit, teachers will briefly review your child's academic progress, discuss any upcoming school events and extracurricular activities, and answer any questions that you may have regarding your child or the school.
We want to visit as many of our families as possible this year. Teachers and staff will be calling or emailing parents to schedule brief 15-20 minute Home Visits on Saturday, October 5th. If this dates does not work for your family, you are welcome to request another date. We hope to see you at home!

MAP Testing
We have completed our first round of MAP testing. MAP testing helps identify gaps in student learning. Teachers will begin analyzing data to create specific learning goals for students. Our next round of MAP testing will show areas of growth since the first round of testing. We will keep you informed of when the next MAP testing session will be.
