Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place February 16th-17th, 2022. Currently, we are allowing parent choice of in-person (Wednesday) or virtual/Zoom (Thursday) meetings. District recommendations may change closer to conference dates and will be communicated in advance. Currently our sign-up reflects in-person conferences on Wednesday and Virtual/Zoom conferences on Thursday.

In an effort to keep everyone as healthy as possible, families are encouraged to participate in virtual conferences via Zoom. When applicable, materials will be sent home in advance, which we will review and discuss together during the conference. If you prefer an in-person conference, please select a time on Wednesday, February 16th. In-person conferences require masks and social distancing. Additionally, should you feel ill within the five days immediately prior to the conference, please contact me to schedule a virtual meeting.

COVID Communication Update

As we have been working through the pandemic, I have been informing families of when there is a positive case within each grade level. Since we have returned from winter break, you have likely noticed that you have received a notice email daily or almost daily. With the high positive transmission rates in Johnson County, COVID has greatly impacted our schools. From now on, I am going to cease sending individual grade level letters. COVID is in our community and in our school. As long as the transmission rate is high in our county, it will be high in our school.

Thank you for communicating with Nurse Sarah concerning any health questions or concerns. She wants to help you navigate your situation and will give you information in order to help make a decision that is appropriate for your circumstances. Thank you for partnering with us during this pandemic!

USD 232 Preschool Enrollment for the 2022-2023 School Year!

USD 232 offers high quality preschool programs for children, ages 3 to 5, that are not yet kindergarten eligible. All programs are half-day, hold low student to adult ratios and use research-based curriculums tied to the Kansas Early Learning Standards. Preschool programs are located in the NEW Cedar Trails Exploration Center at the corner of Mize Blvd & 83rd St., next to Mill Creek Middle School. Grant funded (FREE) preschool spots are available for students who qualify. Transportation (busing) will also be available for grant funded spots and special education services.

Preschool Enrollment for the 2022-2023 school year begins on February 21, 2022. On that date, an online application will be available via the USD 232 Early Childhood website at https://www.usd232.org/Page/9209. Paper applications are also available within Cedar Trails Exploration Center (Lenexa, KS) and Starside Elementary (De Soto, KS) offices. It’s time for the annual Kindest Kansas Citian Contest

Every January, we encourage our students to nominate a person in Kansas City that has shown kindness to them and deserves to be recognized. Ms. Montgomery will briefly explain the contest during her counseling lessons on 1/13-1/27. Like last year, all entries will be uploaded onto the Synergy Services site, so there will be no paper copies to turn into school. The link is below and the final day that entries can be uploaded is Friday, February 18. (You will need to know your nominee’s name and email address.)

ENTRY UPLOAD LINK: https://kindestkansascitian.org/public-essay-submission?teacher_id=604

We are excited to see how many wonderful acts of kindness the kids will share about their Kindest Kansas Citian. I have attached the guidelines page from Synergy Services that explains who can and can not be nominated by your child. If you have any questions, please email me at amontgomery@usd232.org

Kindergarten Round-up

If you have a child who will be attending kindergarten during the 2022-23 school year, please fill out this link Incoming Kindergarten Contact List. You can call the PRE office at 913-667-1800 with any questions. Please mark your calendars for Tuesday, March 8 @ 6:00 P.M. to attend an informational meeting. Share this information with friends and neighbors who will have kindergartners at PRE next year.

PRE Career Awareness Day

We are excited to have our second annual Career Awareness Day! This will be the morning of February 16, 2022. Last year we made some adjustments in how this day looks with positive feedback, so we are going to follow the same format this year. I am asking any parents or community members to submit a video telling about their career. Please aim for a 5-8 minute video. The easiest way to submit the video is through a YouTube link. Please know that we will appreciate any video footage where the career is highlighted…it does not need to be a professional video!

During your video presentation, there are some points that I hope you can address. They are:

  • Your relationship to PRE—parent, former parent, community member, etc.
  • Training or schooling needed to do your job
  • Subjects that you should have an interest in and are good at in order to do your job
  • Any tools that you use on a daily basis, and please highlight these in your video if you can!
  • What a day on the job might look like
  • Showing the environment in which you work

Teachers will be able to work with their class to decide which videos to watch during the morning of February 16. We would also like to have a Zoom session for students to ask specific questions on this day. If you are interested in participating in this portion, please note it on the form below.

I am asking that all videos submitted by February 7. You can email your video to: kfulcher@usd232.org

Thank you for considering being part of the PRE Career Awareness Day!
