Chavez Lobo Letter
for the week of September 14-September 18, 2015
LIFE PRINCIPLE OF THE WEEK--Cooperation
" We all do better when we work together. Our differences do matter, but our common humanity matters more."
TEACHER OF THE WEEK
Beverly Slifer--3rd grade Teacher
I am excited to be a part of the Chavez Community. This is my fourth year teaching at Chavez Elementary and each year keeps getting better! It’s thrilling to see students learn and grow. Being an educator is a most rewarding journey in life as I have the privilege of guiding and shaping young minds. Teaching is a passion for me and I am thankful to have the opportunity to make a positive difference for my students. I love helping students realize and achieve their full potential. This school year has gotten off to an excellent start and students are already rising to meet high expectations. Did you hear? Third grade ROCKS!!!
Originally from California, I have lived in Little Elm since 2001. It's amazing to see how much the sleepy little town has changed and grown over the years. I graduated from TWU with a teaching degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and plan to return this year to earn a Master’s in Education. As for personal time, I enjoy painting, creating pottery, reading, gardening, boating, and biking. I love spending time with friends and family and look forward to a productive, successful 2015-2016 school year. Go Lobos!

TRAFFIC SAFETY
First Day of School brings to mind many memories for parents and students alike. Tomorrow morning will be the most congested traffic day of the school year. We would like to as for everyone's patience in the traffic line. If you are in a hurry it would be best to drop your children off no later than 7:20. Anytime after 7:20 the line will be slow. Anytime our children are near moving traffic we need to be super safe. One of values developed in the Mission Statement is, "All of our children are all of our children." We must all look out for one another's children just like we would look out for our own.
Sitting in a car line is at the bottom of everyone's list, but what you are dropping off or picking up is at the top of everyone's list. The traffic line will be especially long the the first few days of school. Our teachers have done an excellent job of communication and getting students to the right place at the right time. Please keep the following in mind.
* Please use the crosswalk to walk across traffic lanes. Drivers know to watch for crossing traffic at the crosswalks.
* Do not leave cars unattended in any traffic lane. If you must please park in the parking lot.
* Only drop off and pick up students on the inside lane. It is dangerous for students to cross traffic lanes from the outside lane.
* Please do not exceed 5 miles per hour in the traffic lanes. Some of our students are so small that you cannot see them in front of or behind your car.
* Be calm and anticipate traffic delays when you are in a hurry. The safety of all our students depends on all of us doing our part.
Once again, thank you so much for your patience and making safety a priority.
Destination Imagination Awareness Meeting
SEPTEMBER 28TH, 2015
If your child is creative, is crazy about puzzles, loves to paint and draw, can build anything out of even just cardboard boxes, writes amazing stories, thinks up whimsical new worlds, has a flair for drama and acting, is totally into science, or has rewired your toaster into a working time machine (or wants to),...then you may have a Destination Imagination child.
Come and check out a new and exciting program in Little Elm for K-8 students: Destination Imagination (DI). We are looking to start a team on each Elementary and Middle School Campus and need parents and students who are willing and ready to take on a CHALLENGE!
WE WILL SEE YOU THERE!
SCHOOL DAY START AND ENDING TIMES
The School day ends at 2:40pm.
Please drop off and pick up students at school on time.
