Principal's Update
Brent Elementary Weekly Newsletter
October 28 - November 1
As the first quarter has now ended and we are one week into the second quarter, it's incredible to think about all of the things that our students have accomplished in the school year so far. From expectation stations in the first days of school to Uncle Bill's field trip a couple of weeks ago, we've done so much! I know that none of this would be possible without your support of Brent. I appreciate you and your families and all that they do for our students.
As the holidays approach (which can come with out-of-town trips), I want to remind everyone about the importance of school attendance. Most importantly, your child can't learn if they aren't at school! Each minute counts. Secondly, as you have heard many times, attendance laws have changed and are now tracked by minutes instead of days. Missing just one or two days can have an impact on your child's attendance record. If you have any questions, please reach out to me, Mrs. Rouse, or Mrs. Falhaber and we are more than willing to help out.
Please read below for more information on the fall costume parade on Thursday. Also, our Facebook page is up and running. Click on the link at the end of the page to like and follow our page. Have a wonderful week!
Ms. Baker
Fall Costume Parade - 10/31 @ 1:15 pm
- The parade will begin at 1:15. Parents are permitted to enter the building at 1:05.
- Parents and family members may watch the parade in the gym or the main hallway only. Other students may be watching the parade in the academic hallways.
- After the parade is over, parents/guardians may join students in their classrooms for parties (if they are happening). Please check with your child's teacher to see if/when a classroom party is happening.
- Students are NOT allowed to wear their costumes to school on Thursday, they must bring them to school and staff will assist in getting the costumes on before the parade.
- If you do not want your child to participate, please let the school know and we will make accommodations!
- We encourage students to stay at school after the parade, remember that every minute counts towards your child's attendance and Brent's state report card!
Conferences - Nov 7 & 14
Title One Engagement Dinner
PTA - November 6th
Thank you to those that brought in Box Tops for our first collection of the year! We appreciate your support of Finneytown Elementry PTA. The next PTA meeting is Wednesday, November 6th at Brent in the Library/Media Center.
Catalyst Collaboration
Finneytown Local School District collaborates with MindPeace, a local organization that coordinates mental health services for educational agencies. Their mission is to “ensure that there is a seamless system of mental health care for children and adolescents that meets specific characteristics of quality, provides a continuum of care, has system connections, and is affordable.”
Through this collaboration, Finneytown formed a new partnership with Catalyst Counseling LLC beginning in the 2018-2019 school year. This ongoing partnership focuses on increasing access to mental health services for students focusing on strengths. We have a team of mental health professionals working in all our buildings.
Catalyst’s services are provided in each of the school buildings. Families have the ability to utilize their private insurance, Medicaid, or private pay to access services. The partnership with Catalyst is self-sustaining and does not require any financial investment by the district.
Families interested in services should contact their child’s school counselor.

As October comes to an end, I am so proud of all of our students and their work on being respectful. We have spent a lot of time digging into all of the ways to show respect and we will continue this focus for a few more weeks. Manners is still on the respect lesson agenda but we will also learn about voice levels this week. Students will practice being aware of different voice levels and when to use them.
Brent has received an abundance of Halloween costume donations throughout the years. Please reach out if you are in need of a costume for your child. Every student will have access to a costume for the Halloween parade thanks to our donors!
