Dear Shaw Families,
As we move through the season of light and celebrations, we think a lot about peace and what that means to us, to our children and to our school community.
Dr. Montessori was nominated three times for the Nobel Peace Prize. She spoke about issues of war and peace, her life’s work, the education of children and its potential impact on world history.
She believed that the way we educate children affects who they become. It affects who they are as people, how they treat others, what their relationship is to society, and the sense of responsibility they feel toward others, to the future, and to the earth. She predicted that these "new children," educated in a new way, could change the world.
Montessori calls us to respect the inner life of the child and as adults, to aid the emergence of the child’s personality. “To do so is to allow the true self of the child, of the adult-in-the-making, to unfold with dreams and vision intact.” When we do this, we save the child from the experience of forced adaptation to the will of an adult, an experience that teaches that the big guy wins and that peace is built around submission and resentment rather than mutual triumph and glory.
During this season of various celebrations, all of which speak to a desire of peace - how will you bring more peace into your personal life; into the life of your family; into the lives of your children; into life at Shaw Montessori?
Wishing you beautiful celebrations filled with peace this holiday season.
- The ODE is critical to the quality Montessori experience your child receives for FREE.
- Our outdoor environment (ODE) is entirely funded with tax credit donations.
- Our ODE, elementary and primary will cease to exist without your donation. We need $25,000 in this fund to keep our ODE open from September-May. This means we need 125 taxpayers to designate their tax credits to Shaw Montessori for the ODE.
- Your donation here will pay the very small salaries of the teacher’s in our ODE.
No tax credit = No ODE
- $200.00/$400.00 is a remarkably small price to pay for the educational benefits your child is receiving at Shaw Montessori, please give to support our school.
Tax Credits can be donated online here: https://phoenixelem.revtrak.net/
or download and print from at bottom of newsletter to pay via cash/check
The gift of IXL Homework!
Yes, IXL was a gift to our children from our district. Please help us make sure that our students are receiving the benefits of this gift.
The next two weeks off would be a great time for our elementary and middle school children to catch up on work that is deficient or get ahead on their IXL account.
The elementary and middle school teachers thank you for your support.
