## Field Day

Field Day will be May 21st from 1:00-2:45. Please look for a permission slip this week in your child's folder.

## Words

This week we practiced writing sentences with verbs and started spotting adjectives during our morning message. We will continue this next week!

K.L.5 b. Demonstrate understanding of frequently occurring verbs and adjectives by relating them to their opposites.

This week we have been doing a refresher course on reading strategies and attacking an unknown word. While conferring with students, decoding confidence has been a goal for many. This week we reviewed look at a picture and get your mouth ready. :) We will continue into next week.

The students switched reading partners this week and seem to be enjoying reading and learning together.

## Creativity in Play

We played Spot It, created a 3D purse out of paper, opened up a barber shop, and even made a working elevator out of blocks. Good stuff!

## Writers Workshop

Opinion books will be coming home on Tuesday of this week. We also finished our digital books using the Scribble Press app. So fun! I will be sending you a QR code this week with a link to your child's book. :)

We started working on our Dialogue unit of study and introduced speech bubbles through many funny Mo Willems books. The students are loving it!

## Math Workshop

We love our new math board! You have probably noticed our number of the day work coming home. Our helper chooses a number between 1-30 for us to work on various number sense activities. We also have a mini lesson on our math workshop concept at the bottom titled math work and math writing. It's a lot of thinking but they are doing great!

This week we worked on decomposing numbers to 10. The students have been observing patterns in number sentences and decomposing or finding the two parts of many whole numbers. We used beads on pipe cleaners as a visual representation and Friday we made paper chains showing two parts of a whole number.

K.OA.3 Understand addition as putting together and adding to, and understand subtraction as taking apart and taking from.

## Science

We finished our motion unit this week and a test will be coming home tomorrow. We really enjoyed learning about magnets, playing magic tricks with them, and testing the magnets with many objects in our classroom.
