3rd Quarter Grades to be Posted
Dear Families
CSD will be releasing 3rd quarter report cards in the coming weeks. Traditional summative grades (A, B, C, D) will be calculated in the same manner you are accustomed. The CSD elementary faculty will utilize assessment data obtained up to March 13, 2020. The skill based grades which are measured with Advanced, Proficient, Basic, and Below Basic require additional explanation.
The skill based grades are a form of progress monitoring of our students. Therefore, the reports are not an average of how a student performed over a time period. Skill or Standards based reporting (Fluency Reporting) is our way of communicating how well your student is performing in real time on a specific skill. It represents achievement specific to the most recent instance in which they were measured. While these reporting measures are across all grade levels K – 6th, the reporting modality is more prevalent within our primary grades. Therefore, the 4th – 6th grade teachers have been directed to not provide Skill Based grades for the 3rd quarter 2019 – 2020.
For Kindergarten through third grade, please understand the 3rd quarter report cards may or may not include Standards Based reporting (grade level variations may occur). The ability to measure our students was obviously interrupted, and/or the measurements we took are incomplete and not useful as a communication specific to progress or skill attainment. In preparation for release of our elementary report cards your teachers have been directed to be reasonable and proactive with reporting. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your respective teachers if you are concerned with reporting for the 3rd quarter.

Stay Home - Stay On Track Challenge
Julia Barr is On Track
Julia Barr (5th Grade) exhibited Kindness by making cards to cheer up residents of local nursing homes. She decided to do this after realizing that many of those people are being kept indoors and aren't able to receive visitors. Julia thought, if she was in their situation, she would like to receive a card, even from a stranger, that brings well wishes and a happy message.
Chelsea Miller is On Track
Chelsea Miller (3rd grade) helping her little brother, Spencer, to learn his letters for preschool. She doesn’t want him to fail!
Shawn and Alanna Mulligan are On Track
Shawn (3rd) grade) and Alanna Mulligan (kindergarten) showing Kindness to two of our local County Waste workers. They each took the time to make and hand out Thank you cards and Girl Scout cookies. They wanted to spread kindness during these difficult times.
Rory Keating is On Track
From Ms. Faller (1st Grade)
Earlier in the week I sent out a list of April birthdays and explained that if any students would like to create a birthday wish for their classmates, they could send it to me and I would pass it along. One of my students, Rory Keating, was the only student who created a Birthday Wish for two of his classmates who celebrated birthdays over the weekend. I attached the birthday wish picture to this email.
On Tack Challenge Continued
Good afternoon Fairview Elementary parents, students, and staff. I hope you are all well. The circumstance in our school, district, county, state, country, and world are certainly unprecedented and will be the flashbulb memory of so many generations. For my parents’ generation, the moment President Kennedy was assassinated will never be forgotten. My generation will never erase the moment of the Space Shuttle tragedy. Some of our students lived through the events of 9/11 and will forever remember the day the Twin Towers fell. This pandemic influences many generations and seems to bring us all together regardless of age. We will all remember precise facets of this pandemic forever.
While the narrative is not yet fully written, I want to reach out to our FV family to encourage and motivate each other to lift one another’s spirits. The economic, social, and emotional toll this virus is taking on families is great to say the least. Through our temporary school newsletter, The VIEW from FV (Closed) I want to capture what I hope will be the pleasant memories of a tumultuous circumstance.
I am letting all of our FV families know we will have a continuation of our Whole School Positive Behavior Intervention and Support Program, On Track. The FV students and faculty are well versed in On Track and the growth mindset, Tolerance, Respect, Accountability, Courage, and Kindness. I am proposing The VIEW from FV (Closed) be populated with family supplied stories and pictures of On Track moments captured within your homes during the mandated school closure. As Crestwood School District enters the home based learning phase of enrichment and review, I want us to celebrate and share with each other our strength, resolve, and creativity as we endeavor through these unprecedented times.
It is my hope your family may find happiness and solace in The VIEW from FV (Closed) as we share the successes and beautiful moments from our school community through our temporary alternate system. Below are more detailed explanations for our On Track concepts. When submitting the On Track moments, please feel to utilize the wording to describe for FV what we are seeing. You may submit directly to me at kevin.seyer@csdcomets.org. It is so important that we keep embracing Tolerance, Respect, Accountability, Courage, and Kindness during this time. FV Elementary, you are in my thoughts! I hope we can inspire each other to be On Track through The VIEW from FV (Closed).
