Mrs. Stevenson's Message
Dear South Creek Families,
Over the past ten years that South Creek Elementary has been open the average percentage of parents attending parent teacher conferences has been 99%. The staff and I look forward to the opportunity to celebrate each student at South Creek during parent teacher conference on Wednesday, October 5th and Thursday, October 6th.
When schools, families, and community groups work together to support learning, children tend to do better in school, stay in school longer, and like school more.” That’s the conclusion of A New Wave of Evidence, a report from Southwest Educational Development Laboratory (2002).
The report, a synthesis of research on parent involvement over the past decade, also found that, regardless of family income or background, students with involved parents are more likely to:
Earn higher grades and test scores, and enroll in higher-level programs
Be promoted, pass their classes, and earn credits
Attend school regularly
Have better social skills, show improved behavior, and adapt well to school
Graduate and go on to postsecondary education
On Thursday, October 27th at 2:00 in the cafe/gymnasium the staff and students are going to celebrate South Creek’s 10 years of excellence. Please watch for more exciting details this month about the celebration on Facebook, the South Creek Website, and in teacher newsletters.
South Creek is a school of hope, guided by knowledge, inspired by love.

PTO News: Help needed with Parent Teacher Conferences
Parent/Teacher conferences are coming up and the PTO will be preparing dinner for the teachers for those nights (10/5 & 10/6). Teachers have very little time to break for dinner, so having dinner at the school and prepared is very appreciated by them. Below is a link to a Sign-Up Genius that includes items we need donated. Please check it out and if you are able, please sign up.
· Items can be sent in on 10/5. If they are brought in before 4 pm, please droff off at the office with a note that states it's for the PTO. If you are dropping off at 4 pm, please bring directly to the teacher's lounge. All items must be at the school no later than 4pm.
· Monetary donations can be sent in anytime and you can send in with your child and label it: Teacher dinner/PTO mailbox.

Mrs.McIntires Fabulous Fourth Grade Interview By Teegan Quick
Hey students, guess what?! It has already been about 9 whole weeks of school! There is no backing out now! Especially for the teachers, boy do they have a hard job! I decided that I’m going to ask Mrs.McIntire a few questions to see how she has been doing, so lets get started!!
The first thing I wanted to know was if she liked her class? Not only did she like them she LOVES them! I also wanted to know if she liked what she was teaching. She told me “Yes, ESPECIALLY Indiana History.” Then I asked her if she was excited for the new school year. She loves the new school year! I also asked her if she has a lot of work to do. “Always” she told me! Finally, last but definitely not least, I asked her if her kids are doing well, and she told me they were doing fine!
So South Creek, I hope you liked the little sneak peek into a teacher's school life! Even though school is hard there is some good parts of it, for EVERYBODY! Hope you guys have an AWESOME school year!
What Should You Do Over Fall Break by Reece Koomler
Fall break is really fun! You get to go on vacation, sports, and really cool activities. You can do lots of other fun stuff you can do. Here are some vacation recommends that I like.
Go hiking in Nashville
Go skiing in Colorado
Go skiing in Michigan
Or you can do fun activities in Indianapolis, IN. Like…
Dave & Buster's
South Eastway Park
Or maybe you play you play sports for the Franklin Township Flashes like...
Those are some fun stuff to do over fall break.
October Homecoming Parade by Faith Smith
Have you heard that there was a Homecoming Parade on September 22nd? Well, it was awesome! There was candy and people and floats. We should have all went because we will had loads of fun! Many SC students came to the parade. And guess what! Even some of the high schoolers came to watch their high school friends on the floats. The best part of the homecoming parade was when the people on the floats threw candy at the street and at you, so if you came remember the next time you come to bring a bag for all the candy you catch, because the candy wouldnt all fit in your hand! Hope to see you there!I hoped you Enjoyed the parade!
Mrs. Parks, South Creek’s New School Counselor by Brody Gilliam
Mrs. Parks is new to South Creek, and I have to say, she is really nice. She likes to spend time with students. Mrs. Parks loves this school and this is her first year here, so be good for her. This is Mrs. Parks 3rd year of being a school counselor. She was a school counselor at Evansville School District for 2 years, and now she is the school counselor at South Creek Elementary. Mrs. Parks is really nice and I hope you get the chance to meet her.

Recipe of the Month by Katy Walker
Can you guess my next recipe? I bet that you can. My next recipe is going to be a hot or cold ham and cheese sandwich. It is one of my favorite LUNCH recipes. This recipe is a good and simple recipe for a party, celebration ceremony, or even a sleepover with your friends!
Ham And Cheese Sandwich
2 - 12 ct. Pkgs. of sweet Hawaiian rolls (small Hawaiian roll ones)
1 ½ lbs Virginia baked ham
12 slices swiss cheese
¾ cup butter
1 ½ tsp. Dijon mustard
1 ½ tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 ½ tsp. Dried onion
You will need two 9 x 13-inch pans. Place the bottoms of 12 rolls in each pan. Layer the ham and cheese slices over the rolls. Put the tops on. In a saucepan, mix butter, dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and dried onions and heat until butter is melted and all ingredients are combined. Then, pour the melted mixture over the top of the ham sandwiches. Sprinkle with poppy seeds and cover with foil. Refrigerate overnight (if not able to wait, that’s okay. They still taste great!) Preheat oven to 350*. Bake uncovered for about 15-20 minutes and serve. They are great hot and even room temperature.
My family and I love these ham sandwiches. Hope you like them as much as we do. Enjoy!
HOMECOMING PARADE by SIENNA GARCIA
Gators! Did you know that the homecoming parade was on the 22nd of September? Gators rode the South Creek float and threw candy. The South Creek cheering area was in front of Chase bank and all the Gators were cheering for our awesome float, that was judged at the end. They were able to see the other floats, too. You can also see the Gators of the Month either on the float or walking by the float. I hope you saw our great teachers there and, of course, we can't forget our big Gator AL! Later Gators !
October Book Sales by Dayla Craig
There is a book sale on October 5th-6th during conferences. I hope you all are as excited as I am! I can not wait to find a book to call my own. There are so many to choose from. What book would you choose? I heard there a few new Goosebumps books. Here are some questions I am going to ask Mrs.Thurston. What are the newest books in the library? Are there any new goosebumps or big nate books? When's the best time to come to the book fair with parents? What are the popular books in the library? How should kids act in library should they be acting like kindergarteners or should the be acting like they are loyal kids.
Mrs.Thurson said that the new books are Ghosts by Raina Teldemeir who wrote the Sisters, Simile and Drama. There is a new book from Captain Underpants called Dog Man he’s ”part dog, part man”
What are the newest books in the library?
One of our new books is Ghosts by Raina Telgemeir who wrote the VERY popular books Sisters, Smile, and Drama. There is a new book by Dave Pilkey (Captain Underpants) that was very popular at our Thompson Crossing book fair. It's called Dog Man. It's about a guy who's "part dog, part man, and ALL HERO!" I predict the most popular book at our book fair will be Took by Mary Downing Hahn. She writes books that are often pretty spooky and suspenseful and this one is no exception. Took is a creepy ghost story with an even creepier doll! The new Diary of a Wimpy Kid book, Double Down, will be available for pre-purchase, but it doesn't come out until Nov. 1st. If you order it through book fair, it will be delivered to school that day or maybe the day after.
Are there any new Goosebumps or Big Nate books?
There will be Goosebumps books, but they're not technically new. I think the last Goosebumps book to come out was Revenge of the Lawn Gnomes a few years ago, so R.L. Stine needs to get cracking and write some new Goosebumps for us! There will be several Big Nate books available. The newest Big Nate book is called BIG NATE: Revenge of the Cream Puffs. I'm not sure if we'll have it at book fair. It just came on a couple of weeks ago, but I'm sure there'll be a ton of Big Nate books available.
When's the best time to come to the book fair with parents?
Book fair will be open during parent/teacher conferences. That's the best time for parents to shop, but parents are also welcome to come during their child's library time.
What are the popular books in the library?
I just checked Destiny Quest and the most popular books right now are:
10. Fun With Pokemon
9. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw by Jeff Kinney
8. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Hard Luck by Jeff Kinney
7. Drama by Raina Telgemeir
6. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Ugly Truth by Jeff Kinney
5. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Old School by Jeff Kinney
4. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Cabin Fever by Jeff Kinney
3. Dork Diaries: Tales from a Not-so-perfect Pet Sitter by Rachel Renee Russell
2. Sisters by Raina Telgemeir
1. Pokemon Deluxe Essential Handbook
How should kids act in library during the fair?
This year, we're going to have the book fair in the LGI room again, so half the class will be able to check out a book in the library while the other half shops, then we'll flip. As always, there should be no running and kids should be on their best behavior.
Will students get to visit the book fair during school or only after school?
Kids will be shopping during their regular library time. They'll have to wait until their first library visit to shop, so if your normal library day is Tuesday, you have to wait until Tuesday to shop. You can't come in early, no matter how excited you are! Don't worry, we'll make sure we have everything, no matter how popular it is. If you forget your money on your library day, you can always come back and shop later in the week. Book fair begins Friday, Oct. 7th and runs through Thursday, Oct. 13. We will be packing up the book fair first thing in the morning on Oct. 14th. Then, Scholastic will pick up everything and take it to their warehouse on the north side of Indianapolis.
What is a Gator of the Month by Garrett McElfresh
Hi Gators!!! We are here at South Creek today and I am Garrett from the Gator
Gazette. I have some questions for some of our Gators of the Month:
1. What does it mean to you to be Gator of the Month?
2. Have you ever gotten on purple this year and why?
3. What do you recommend to others so they can be a Gator or the month?
4. How many times have you been a Gator of the Month?
5. If you had to choose a person to be a Gator of the Month, who would you pick?
And thank you for letting me take your time to find out what Gator of the Month means by Garrett Mcelfresh!!!
