February Update

Greetings Spartan Family!

Welcome to February and our coldest month this year. While we have had to miss a couple of days due to snow, I am glad to report we have not had to miss any time from our hybrid schedule due to illnesses or otherwise. We are hoping the weather warms soon and COVID cases continue to decline.

Speaking of the weather, I wanted to just follow up about why I chose to exercise snow days instead of just shifting to remote learning during the recent bad weather. Unfortunately, we still have a small number of families in our community who cannot connect to the internet. This is not a matter of hardware, but a matter of them not being able to get a signal. Because of this I decided we would have the snow days since everyone was not going to be able to connect. We need to be ready as a district however, to shift to remote learning days in the future should weather cause a school closure. If that happens, I will be sure to notify you.

I wanted to be sure and thank our district team who put together a fantastic resource on our website for Black History Month. If you have not done so, please click on the hyperlink from the homepage of the Lake Forest School District website. You will really enjoy the resources they have put together in honor our nation's Black history.

As always, I like to put a few calendar reminders in my newsletters.

Monday February 15th- Schools Closed for President's Day

Thursday February 25- 3rd quarter interim reports available on HAC

Tuesday March 30- End of 3rd marking period

Apr 2-12 Schools are closed for Staff Development and Spring Break

As always, I would be remiss if I did not thank and commend our awesome staff for their hard work this year. Whether it is our teachers doing double duty teaching in both the remote and hybrid learning environments, our building services staff shoveling snow and putting down salt, our nurses providing healthcare, or our Child Nutrition Staff providing meals, the educators in Lake Forest go above and beyond their duties to serve our children and our community. We thank you all!!!

Thank you for reading and as always we welcome your feedback, and I look forward to seeing you on a Lake Forest Campus soon.

Sincerely,

Steven Lucas, Superintendent
