NACP Parents In the Know
News From Our Principal, Dr. Guerrero
WEEK 18 - January 15, 2021
NO CLASS MONDAY, JANUARY 18, 2021
in Observance of the Holiday Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Message from the Principal
I want to give all of you a warm welcome. I hope your winter break was peaceful and that you had plenty of time to enjoy time with loved ones. From the classrooms I got visit this week, I could tell that students were more than enthusiastic to be back to class. Read below to find out what I observed when I visited classrooms.
I observed students working collaboratively to solve word problems in math. Students were able to explain their thinking, they discussed the different ways they could solve the problem and were able to collectively resolve the equations after having these conversations. If that wasn't enough, students were tasked with selecting who would be the head of their group and lead the rest in solving the word problem. It took them only a couple of seconds to decide and then got right to work!
I also observed a student working one on one with his teacher, the teacher provided guidance as the student worked on solving math problems.
In one second grade classroom students were working on formulating opinions and knowing the difference between having an opinion and stating a fact. Another classroom was reviewing their theatrical performance video they presented to parents and their peers before winter break. If you have not watched it, you really have to our second graders were phenomenal!
The last classroom I visited, students were working in small groups with their teacher. The topic they were discussing for their ELD lesson was the importance of having rules and laws. Students discussed the topic with their teacher, wrote their response to the question independently, and were going to verbally share their responses with their peers at a later time.
Needless to say our kids and teachers are doing a wonderful job. Students are engaged in learning and continue to work despite me being present. Proving that learning can be achieved at high levels despite the circumstances. Like always, I was so impressed with our students and teachers! Keep up the good work!
Thank you NACP Teachers and Parents for all you do for our kids!
Sincerely Yours,
-Dr. Guerrero
