They will be typing up a report and then presenting their research dressed up as their famous person. Now that we are in the yellow, you are invited to attend!! If you would like to do so, you will need to sign up in the office and receive a visitor sticker. If you choose to take pictures or record, we ask that you take pictures of/record your student only. This Week we are Learning...

Language Arts: In reading, we will begin a new study on narrative nonfiction. Students will explore biographies and will learn that narrative nonfiction can tell a story using a narrative structure in order to make the topic interesting and appealing to the reader. Biographies, the primary focus of this unit, offer the opportunity to learn about history and explore other cultures and times.

In writing, students will connect what they are learning during reading through a short-term research project on an important historical figure that interests them and taking their piece through the writing process.

Math: Students will continue exploring multiplication and will begin solving multiplication word problems. Students will visualize, identify, and make groups of objects to determine the total number of items, build a variety of models (number line, array, ratio table) to represent multiplication, and use a basic unit of measurement to investigate other objects and compare using multiplicative thinking.

Social Studies: Students will understand the basic structures and functions of the various levels of government as well as the characteristics of good citizenship needed in order to support and contribute to our democracy.

Social Emotional Learning: We will continue studying the 7 Habits of Happy Kids! This week we will be talking about Habit 5: Seek first to understand then to be understood. As we learn about Habit 5, we will discover:

  • Listening to others beliefs, ideas, and feelings
  • Seeing things from other peoples points of view
  • Listening without interrupting
  • Sharing our opinions and feelings respectfully
