The Temi Times

Dear Tiger Family,

We hope this message finds you well as we settle into the new school year at Chesapeake Science Point Elementary School. As we navigate these unique times together, open communication between our school and our parents is paramount. Your input and cooperation are invaluable in ensuring a safe, nurturing, and productive learning environment for all our students. Here are some key points we'd like to address in this edition of the CSPES Parent Newsletter:

Your Concerns Matter: We want to emphasize that your concerns and feedback are highly valued. If you have any questions, suggestions, or concerns about your child's education or the school environment, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. We are here to listen, collaborate, and address any issues that may arise. Together, we can make CSPES the best place for our children to thrive.

Uniform Policy: We kindly remind all parents to ensure that your children adhere to the school's uniform policy. A consistent dress code helps create a focused and respectful atmosphere for learning. Please review the uniform guidelines provided at the link below to ensure your child is dressed appropriately.

Health and Wellness: As the weather begins to change, it's important to be vigilant about the health of our students. If your child is running a fever or exhibiting any symptoms of illness, please keep them home and notify the school. Your cooperation in this matter helps us maintain a safe and healthy school environment for everyone.

Back to School Night: We are excited to invite all parents to our upcoming Back to School Night on Wednesday, September 13th, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM. This is a great opportunity to meet your child's teachers, learn about classroom routines, and gain valuable insights into the curriculum for the upcoming year. We encourage all parents to attend and actively participate in this informative event.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership in your child's education journey at CSPES. We look forward to a successful school year filled with growth and achievement. Should you have any questions or require further information, please do not hesitate to contact our school office.

With much excitement,

Tabatha Camacho

CSPES MAP Growth Testing Update

Greetings Parents,

Chesapeake Science Point Elementary School will administer Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) Growth Assessments to students in grades K-5 during the 2023-2024 school year. The MAP Growth assessments are given three times during the school year: Fall, Winter, and Spring. We will start the Fall testing process during the week of September 11. MAP testing helps us understand your child's strengths and areas where they may need additional support, ensuring a personalized learning experience.

MAP Growth tests are unique and adapt to your child’s responses to measure your child’s knowledge. If your child answers a question correctly, the next question is more challenging. If they answer incorrectly, the next one is easier. These results will provide a more complete picture of where your child is on their learning journey— regardless of whether they are on, above, or below their grade level.

It is important to note that MAP testing is not about passing or failing; instead, it provides valuable insights to help us tailor instruction and support for your child's individual needs. For more information on MAP testing and to access additional resources for parents, please visit the NWEA Family Toolkit at https://www.nwea.org/the-map-suite/family-toolkit/. We appreciate your support in this endeavor and look forward to working together to empower your child's educational journey.

Sincerely,

Juliana Derin
