We are planting a tree at TCE!!!
As you know we have been learning about plant life cycles. When learning about all the ways a tree can help our community, our class decided we'd plant one! This week, we learned about what must take place prior to planting a tree. We called to have the buried lines sprayed, then double checked to make sure where we wanted to plant the tree was approved!
Next week we will plan to plant out tree! I will be watching the weather to see which day will be the best day for this. Look for an email from me with more info. early next week! Zach King (my husband) owns his own landscape business, so he will be joining us with shovels, soil and all the things we'll need. Get your child's work clothes and shoes ready!
As you know, trees can be expensive. If you'd like to send in money to help cover the cost, that would be awesome. Don't feel obligated though...we'll still plant it either way! I'm so excited to help make TCE even MORE beautiful!

By April 11th, the Monday after Spring Break, each student will need to bring in an empty soup or vegetable can. We will be using these for a special upcoming project! Thanks for your help with collecting these 2 items!

We are Learning...
We will continue our study of traditional literature. We will be studying different versions of fairy tales, fables, and folktales. We will be comparing and contrasting different versions and we will also discuss the theme of each version.
Math:
We will continue our study on geometry. This week we learned the difference between plane shapes and geometric solids. We also started exploring how many sides, edges and vertices plane shapes have. We'll look more at geometric solid figures next week!
Writing:
We are working SO hard on wrapping up our young author books and working on our final drafts! The class has done such an amazing job on these. I am so excited for the students to share them at our upcoming Pancake Breakfast!
Science:
We will continue learning about lifecycles! We will learn what a cycle is, and identify cycles that occur everyday!
Word Study:
Word study in 2nd grade includes spelling, phonics, and vocabulary development. We will be focusing on 15 new vocabulary words. Those words are: cycle, seed, antenna, germinate, seedling, bulb, cone, bud, roots, photosynthesis, reproduce, disperse, pollinate, sapling, and adaptation.
