Academic Information
ELA:
In ELA, we are continuing to prepare for the Milestones, and then we are excited to dive into our drama unit after! Students will be learning general drama vocabulary to begin the unit, and then they will be creating a characterization booklet for the characters in the play that they will be studying. This activity will support students’ understanding of the story’s characters on a deeper and more meaningful level.
Reading:
Reading is finishing up their Transfer of Skills unit with a Mini-Unit: Short Writing inside the Reading Test. We will be focusing on the constructed response questions of assessments and other assignments in different content areas. This unit will also focus on understanding and analyzing audio texts (with passages). Our class is also continuing to increase our stamina with our independent books during this season of testing.
Social Studies:
We have started our unit on Australia. We have finished our studies of Australian Geography, and we are now diving in on studying Australian Government and their economy. After reviewing the current status of Australia’s government and economy, we will explore their past by reviewing Australian History. Following the completion of these segments, we will start a project on Australia that students will work on during the week of Milestones Testing for 6th Grade. We will share these projects in class on May 13 and 14, and we will review both Australia and Junior Achievement (aka BizTown) for May 15 and May 16. After that, we have finals week for the last week of school and summer!

Other Help Session Info
- Help sessions provide an opportunity for students to gain extra practice in a particular subject area.
- Teachers rotate who leads each subject's help session each week. Therefore, students may go to any teacher's help session, even if they don't have that teacher.
- Students must come to sessions with questions, a pen/pencil, and paper.
- For the morning sessions, students will wait in the cafeteria until they are picked up by the teacher leading that session at 8:00 a.m. Students must be on time, and they must be attentive so that they can hear when their session is called. Late students will not be admitted down the hallway.
- For the afternoon sessions, students go directly to the teacher hosting the help session after the dismissal bell rings. Students must be picked up on time at 4:40 p.m. in front of the school.
