Veterans Day Assembly
Both Patton (pictured) and Duniway have a longstanding tradition of inviting local veterans into the schools for an honor assembly to recognize Veterans Day.
Pictured above from left, Patton Leadership students who spoke at the assembly: Henry Ayers, Meah Murphy, Jeremiah Alfaro, teacher Emily Wilcox, Lila Klosterman, Mackenzie Barnes-Jensen and Sofia Brown.
The band opened the assembly with the national anthem.
The choir's first song was “America, the Beautiful.”
Mac High student Sebastian Carillo closes the assembly with “Taps.”
5th-Grade Outdoor School
I am thrilled to share that MSD will extend the opportunity for all 5th-grade students to attend Outdoor School camps in Spring 2024. Each school will have its unique outdoor experience, and our 5th graders will have the chance to immerse themselves in the wonders of nature for at least two nights.
Schools will reach out soon with camp specifics, dates and other pertinent details to ensure a seamless and enjoyable experience for both students and their families.
We believe that Outdoor School is more than just an excursion; it's a chance for our students to discover, learn and grow in an environment that goes beyond the classroom walls. We are grateful for the support that has made this opportunity possible and look forward to witnessing the positive impact it will have on our 5th-grade students.
Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB)
OBOB is ramping up for this year’s competition and will add a high school division for the first time. Students grades 3 - 12 can sign up to compete on teams of four by reading a list of books and participating in a game-show type contest against other teams. Find out more and see the booklist here.
Thank you to the McMinnville Education Foundation for making this program possible for our students!
Busing Update
The construction on the Third Street bridge is impacting our bus routes. First Student has rerouted to avoid the backups as much as possible, but we still expect delays on routes that travel near the bridge. This phase of the construction is expected to last at least three weeks, possibly longer.
We understand this means some students are on the bus longer than usual and encourage you to review the bus expectations with your students.
Patton Presents “Treasure Island”
A humorous, family-friendly version of the classic “Treasure Island” runs next Friday-Sunday, Nov. 17-19 at Patton. Find more about the story and how to get tickets here.
MHS Students Network
Six Mac High students in the Computer Science Pathway had a chance to work and attend professional sessions at this week's Oregon IT Expo, held at the Evergreen Aviation Theater.
As part of ongoing efforts to expose students to possible career paths, students are helping out at the conference in exchange for attending sessions and learning about how technology and business intersect.
Reminder: No School Tomorrow
Schools are closed tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 10 in honor of Veterans Day.
Free Books for Children Ages 0 - 5
The Yamhill Enrichment Society has partnered with Dolly Parton's Imagination Library to offer free books every month to children. Books are mailed directly to children until their fifth birthday. Find out more here and enroll here.
Thank you, Community!
Local resident Anne Van Sickle recently donated funds and some beautifully hand-knit blankets to the MSD Family Resource Center.
It’s great to live in a community with so many people who are willing to step up to help our students and families!
