Pasco County Schools Student Self Screener - Effective August 2, 2021
The Pasco County School District expects all students (vaccinated and unvaccinated) and/or parents/guardians to complete this pre-entry screening tool daily, on behalf of themselves or their child/student before the student attends school.
1. Does the student have new, or worsening, onset of any of the following symptoms?
· Fever (greater than 100.4) or chills
· New uncontrolled cough (if you have established chronic allergy or asthma, a change from your regular cough)
· Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
· Fatigue
· Muscle or body aches
· Headache
· New loss of taste or smell
· Sore throat
· Congestion or runny nose
· Nausea or vomiting
· Diarrhea
YES ___NO ___
If NO, please continue to question no. 2.
If YES, the student cannot come on campus and will have to do ONE of following:
· Provide the school documentation of a negative COVID-19 PCR test administered after the onset of symptoms (detects the viral genetic material)
· While awaiting COVID test results, the student must be kept home until results are available.
§ If test result is negative, then student can return to school.
§ If test result is positive, the student cannot come on campus and is required to:
· stay home for 10 days from the date the positive test was administered or stay home for at least ten days since symptoms first appeared (whichever occurred first), AND be fever free for at least 24 hours (without taking medication to reduce fever) AND have improvement in other symptoms (cough, shortness of breath).
· Present a written clearance to return to school from the student’s physician indicating an alternate diagnosis.
· The student must also be fever free for at least 24 hours (without taking medication to reduce fever) AND have improvement in other symptoms (cough, shortness of breath) prior to returning to school.
2. Has the student recently tested positive for COVID-19 or is waiting for test results due to their own illness?
YES__NO __
If NO, the student may come to school as planned.
If YES, the student waiting for test results must be kept home until results are available.
· If test result is negative, then student may return to school as planned.
· If test result is positive, the student cannot come on campus and is required to:
§ Notify the school about the positive test documentation in order to receive instructions on next steps for instructional continuity.
§ Stay home for 10 days from the date the positive test was administered or stay home for at least ten days since symptoms first appeared (whichever occurred first) AND be fever free for at least 24 hours (without taking medication to reduce fever) AND have improvement in other symptoms (cough, shortness of breath).
3. If unvaccinated, within the past two weeks, have you had prolonged (15+ minutes) AND close contact (fewer than 6 feet) with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 and is still under a required isolation by the Pasco County Department of Health? If vaccinated, you do not need to quarantine, see next section for more details.
YES ___ NO ___
If yes, you must contact your immediate supervisor for further guidance prior to reporting for duty. You cannot come on campus and are required to quarantine as advised as by the Pasco County Department of Health. Regardless of a negative COVID-19 test result, employees in this category must remain in quarantine for the full 14-day period required by the Department of Health.
***As a reminder, if you answered “YES”, you need to remain at home and cannot report to school in-person. Please contact your child's school and follow the steps outlined above.***
Considerations for Recent Vaccine Recipients
If the student has received a COVID vaccination in the last 24-72 hours, special consideration should be taken for the following mild to moderate symptoms:
· Fatigue
· Fever
· Chills
· Body aches
· Headache
· Pain at injection site
These symptoms are common 24-72 hours after vaccinations. This will NOT require 10-day isolation. If your child experiences severe symptoms such as: shortness of breath, loss of taste/smell, symptoms listed as anaphylaxis reaction, please contact your medical provider for further recommendations.
Considerations for Fully Vaccinated Recipients
The purpose of the screener is to help families determine if the student is well enough to engage in learning at the school building.
· Students that are fully vaccinated have protection against the virus but are not immune to it.
· Vaccinated students experiencing COVID-like symptoms described previously or answering “YES” to either of the screener questions will follow their school’s normal sick protocol. If the student remains sick and symptomatic, he or she may need to be excluded from school until the appropriate return condition listed in the screener is met.
· Being fully vaccinated will allow students to avoid a quarantine order when close exposure to a positive case is confirmed as long as they are not experiencing COVID-like symptoms. For some vaccinated students experiencing these symptoms, vaccination status may not prevent an exclusion and a negative test or doctor’s diagnosis for alternate explanation of symptoms may need to be presented in order to return to school.
The District School Board of Pasco County (DSBPC or District) has created reasonable, precautionary measures in an effort to reduce the spread of COVID-19. However, given the extremely contagious nature of COVID-19, the DSBPC cannot guarantee that your child(ren) will not contract the virus while attending or engaging in school-related and/or extracurricular activities. To reduce the risk of exposure, the district has provided parents and guardians with a virtual educational option outside of the traditional brick and mortar classrooms, which include Pasco eSchool. We look forward to educating your child(ren) and we appreciate your cooperation and efforts as we all work together to keep our students, children, and society healthy.
