A message from Amy Finkelstein on National Suicide Prevention Week
This past week was National Suicide Prevention Week. Through an announcement on VTN, as well as having staff outside of the cafeterias, we have been placing a small, but necessary, emphasis on how significant an issue this is. Suicide is currently the 3rd leading cause of death among individuals ages 10-24. Here at SBHS we have many resources available to help not only identify but also assist students who are struggling, whether it be through the counselors or case managers in SPS, the professionals in our Student Assistance and Wellness department, or the staff of the BRIDGE Center, as well as the training that all staff in the building receive. There are many things that each of these individuals do throughout the year to focus on students’ mental health, thus the reason why the emphasis is not specifically on this one week. Should there be any concern about your student, we would encourage you to reach out to any of the listed professionals, as well as utilize the Mental Wellness Resources under the Parent and Student Info/Crisis Information tab on the district as well as SBHS websites.
