I also wanted to share that we now have a Twitter handle (@oregonshape) and are transitioning from a group to a page on Facebook (facebok.com/oregonshape). This will make it easier for you, as well as others, to connect with Oregon SHAPE. Make sure to follow and like us to get connected and keep up to date on information regarding the conference, teacher resources and advocacy.
Thanks, and I look forward to serving our organization.

Leslie Hickcox recently attended the Bicycle Transportation Alliance meeting in Portland. Read below for important updates regarding the development of the Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program.
Safe Routes To School (SRTS) Initiative Report
A meeting was called by Leanne Fergason of the BTA (Bicycle Transportation Alliance) to bring together several community partners in order to initiate a coalition to develop the Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program. This was previously sponsored by federal funding. It now needs to be locally funded, preferably by a Portland metro organization. The SRTS program affects 150,000 kids. One in four Oregon kids is now considered overweight or obese. It is a great program for promoting physical activity and healthier lifestyles for youth. They will be petitioning the Metro Transit Organization (regional funding) for 11 million dollars to continue the Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program. SRTS has been active in Multnomah and Washington Counties. Clackamas County is newly developing SRTS in some of their schools. The BTA is looking for volunteers or organizations to join the coalition. The contact person address and phone is the following:

Oregon Shape Conference
Saturday, Oct. 4th, 8am
900 SE Baker St
McMinnville, OR
Oregon SHAPE Fall Conference is MOVING! In addition to being packed full of great movement activities, we’re also moving to a new date this year. We realize that fewer teachers have the option to attending professional conferences during Statewide Teacher Inservice day, since many school districts plan their own events. Therefore, we have decided to move the conference to the Saturday prior to inservice day.
Please plan on joining us at Linfield College on SATURDAY, OCTOBER 4, 2014.
Registration will open soon for the conference. If you have questions about any aspects of the conference, you may contact Dawn Graff-Haight, the Oregon SHAPE conference manager, at dghaight@linfield.edu.
