Welcome Back!

Welcome Back St. Gabe's students and families!

It's been great to see so many of you this past week (in person and online)! Once again, we have a lot of new students this year which is great to see! We're happy that the great work our teachers do with students is getting out into the community. Please continue to spread the good news about St. Gabes!

This is the first newsletter of the school year. I send one detailed newsletter each month with a mid-month email reminder. The newsletters are posted on social media and on our website for easy reference. There is a lot of important information in our newsletters so please take a few minutes each month to read them and let us know if you have any questions.

We're excited to continue to work with you and your families this year. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to our staff.

Many Blessings,

Renee Trottier, principal

Staffing Changes

We have one more staffing change to announce. Mrs. Tracy Delhez, our counsellor, is taking the year off to work on her doctorate and focus on her private practice. We are grateful to Mrs. Delhez for all her wonderful work and support at St. Gabes and we wish her all the best in her endeavours.

Please read the information below about Mrs. Webb, Mrs. Delhez's replacement.

PowerSchool and Moodle - Very Important

We are one week into school at this point. If you haven't accessed your courses on Moodle yet, you are already behind. If you are missing courses in Moodle or PowerSchool, please contact Principal, Renee Trottier ASAP.

PowerSchool for students and parents

We no longer print and send home report cards. Marks are all recorded in PowerSchool on a continual basis, including comments if necessary. Parents and students are expected to check PowerSchool regularly.

Students - You can access PowerSchool using your student email and password.

Parents - If you don't have a parent PowerSchool account, please contact Principal Renee Trottier. You will need an access ID and Password from the school in order to set up your account. You can add all of your GSACRD children on one account.

The PowerSchool App - Did you know there is an app for PowerSchool? It's super easy to use. Once you've set up your account, download the PowerSchool App from your phone's app store. When it prompts you for our district code, type in QNMM.

Note - parents, you must set up your account from a computer first. After that, you can access your account from your phone or the app.

St. Gabriel Education Centre Relocation Update

This information was emailed to families on Friday, Sept. 1.

Update on the upcoming relocation of St. Gabriel Education Centre to Holy Family Catholic School.

As previously mentioned, this move represents a significant step forward for our school community. After careful planning and consideration, we are pleased to announce that construction will commence in October, marking the beginning of a new chapter in our school's history. We are dedicated to ensuring a smooth and well-organized transition for all involved.

During construction, students will temporarily relocate to the École Father Jan site, with further details to come in the next few weeks. We expect this transition to last for at least several months. We will have plenty of space to teach and learn during this transition and are confident that it will be a positive experience for everyone.

The construction process will encompass various enhancements to create a dedicated space for St. Gabriel Education Centre within Holy Family Catholic School. This specially designed area will feature ample space, convenient parking, and a separate entrance for St. Gabriel Education Centre. These additions are intended to provide a more inclusive and enriched learning environment, further supporting our students' educational needs.

Throughout this process, we are committed to keeping you informed and engaged. We will provide regular updates on the construction progress, any potential changes to schedules, and other relevant information, to ensure that you are well-prepared for the transition. Our goal is to work closely with each of you, addressing any questions or concerns you may have along the way.

Thank you once again for your support of St. Gabriel Education Centre. We look forward to embarking on this exciting journey with you. Please know that we will provide updates as soon as we learn more information.

School Council

Please join us on Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 6:30pm for our first School Council meeting of the year. We meet once per month except for December and June. All of our meetings will be online.

Being part of School Council is a great way to learn about your child's school and advise the administration about what parents want and need for their children at school. We also require one high school student to join us for these meetings.

At our first meeting we will establish our council and set dates for the remainder of the year so if Tuesday is not a good night for you, don't worry, we will discuss the schedule together and try to find a suitable night for everyone involved. Bonus - There's no fundraising on School Council! Please let me know if you would like to join us by emailing me at mailto:rtrottier@gsacrd.ab.ca.

A school with a School Council is a strong, productive and viable school!

Why God Loves You

I am a child of God.

We are ALL people of God.

Nothing we do can make God love us any less, or any more. God’s love for every person is limitless.

What exactly does it mean to say God is love?
How do you personally experience God’s love?

Counselling at SGEC

Hello, my name is Mrs. Monique Webb and I will be a teacher at SGEC this year as well as the school counsellor. You will see me around the school each week on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays. I am here throughout the day if you would like some help with your courses and am always happy to meet with students and families.

While I am new to the SGEC team I am not entirely new to the area. I grew up in St. Albert and now I live on a hobby farm near the Morinville Colony with my husband and 2 teenagers. In our free time we enjoy camping, 4-H, riding horses, raising dogs, chickens and cats. We are all avid readers and enjoy taking trips to bookstores when we are travelling or heading into town.

I look forward to meeting all of you in the coming weeks. Should you need anything please don’t hesitate to text or call 587-983-2541 or email me at: mwebb@gsacrd.ab.ca.

Note - Counselling referrals can be made by parents or teachers. Support is provided for individual or family concerns and referrals to outside agencies can be accessed through Mrs. Webb.

School Supplies

Do you need school supplies and are struggling to get what you need? Just ask at our front office. We have a few supplies available for students in need.

Parking

Just a friendly reminder that we have a student parking lot down the hill from our school (down the back alley).

We kindly ask that you comply with the following:

1. Do not park in our staff parking which is located near our front door.

2. We also ask that you do not use the handicapped parking spot for drop off and pick up as we have students who need it.

3. Do not wait for your child for excessive amounts of time in the handicapped spot, even if you have a handicap placard, as other students will need to be able to use the spot.

4. Do not park in front of our garbage bin.

5. Do not park in the lot at the top of Seven Hills.

We have plenty of spaces in our student parking lot for you.

Thank you!
