Thank you in advance for your support.
4. LOST AND FOUND - Our rack is overflowing with coats, hats, mittens, and other miscellaneous items. Please have your student check the lost and found rack. Parents are welcome to come in and check lost and found as well. All unclaimed items will be donated at the end of the school year.
5. We have completed a school-wide head lice check. As you are aware, it is necessary to treat more than just the hair. It is a time consuming task, but it is the only way to reduce the cases of head lice. If your child was sent home, after they are treated and your environment is treated, please bring him/her to the office to be checked. Students should not return to their classrooms until they have been checked by the office. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
6. TEACHER REQUESTS for the 2016-2017 school year are now being taken in the Keicher office. We will continue to take requests during the month of April. We have a super teaching staff at Keicher Elementary and are excited at the variety of teaching styles we can offer our students. Requests must be written and have an educational reason to be considered for the placement. As much as we are able, we will honor requests made, but there are no guarantees. The deadline is April 29, 2016.

FYI
Our Annual Education Report (AER) for Keicher Elementary School is available for you to view on our building/district website http://www.mccardinals.org/domain/134 or you may also review a copy in the school’s main office. The AER provides key information on the 2014-2015 educational progress for our school. The school’s report contains information about student assessment, accountability, and teacher quality. If you have any questions about the AER, please contact Johanna Pscodna for assistance.
Making School a Priority
With spring right around the corner, it can be hard to keep children focused on learning. What can you do to make school a top priority for your kids? Keep these simple ideas in mind – they’re useful at any time of the year.
Make attendance job #1. Let your youngsters know that unless they’re sick, they must go to school. Try to schedule routine dentist and doctor appointments after school hours. If possible, take family vacations during school breaks. Tip: Give awards for perfect attendance each month. Try a “Job Well Done” certificate or a coupon good for a night of bowling or a movie.
Show you care. Want your children to know that you’re interested in their learning? Talk about their school activities and projects. Attend as many school events as you can. If homework and after-school activities conflict, speak up: “I know you have baseball practice this evening, but homework comes first. After you finish, I’ll take you to practice.”
Keep it upbeat. Try to set a positive example for your children, even when your own day has been difficult. Instead of saying, ‘I had a hard day at work. I’ll never get my project done,” try, “Work was hard today, but I made some progress on my project.” If you show a positive attitude about your work, your youngsters may feel better about their own. Choose to do well
True or false: standardized test are tough. The answer depends on how prepared your youngster is. Here are four ways to help him/her handle test week:
- 1. Explain that the tests will show how much he/she has learned. Encourage him to try his/her best, but don’t put so much emphasis on them that he/she feels stressed.
- 2. Practice the test format. For example, your child might have to read a paragraph and answer questions. Using one of his textbooks, have him/her look at the questions at the end of a section first and then read the passage. That will help him know what to read for and how to find the answers.
- 3. Limit activities the night before tests. You may want to avoid having guests for dinner or skip his brother’s baseball game if it means being out late. Be sure your child gets to bed on time and sets an alarm for the next morning.
- 4. On test day, give him an energy-boosting breakfast. Try to include both protein (eggs, yogurt, milk) and carbohydrates (fruit, oatmeal, toast).
