QUICK TIPS TO RECOGNIZE ANXIETY

BY: MEISHIA WILLIAMS, MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELOR FOR RH SCHOOLS

THERE ARE SEVERAL REASONS WHY WE ARE SEEING INCREASED ANXIETY IN THE STUDENTS SINCE THE START OF THE PANDEMIC. THESE REASONS INCLUDE:

*THE UNKNOWN: NOT KNOWING WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN (COVID, SCHOOL SCHEDULES, ETC.).

*UNEXPECTED CHANGES: THINGS LOOK DIFFERENT.

*ADULTS ARE STRESSED

*CHANGES IN LIFESTYLE: NOT BEING ABLE TO SOCAILIZE WITH FRIENDS AS MUCH.

*SOCIAL MEDIA: CONSTANTLY HEARING ABOUT THE PANDEMIC

AND THE IMPACTS OF IT.

ANXIETY CAN LOOK DIFFERENT IN EVERY CHILD. SOME SYMPTOMS AND SIGNS TO LOOK FOR ARE A HARD TIME FOCUSING IN CLASS, IRRITABILITY, LACK OF ENERGY, CHANGES IN SLEEP PATTERNS, AND ALSO PHYSICAL SYMPTOMS LIKE FREQUENT STOMACH ACHES OR HEADACHES.

IF YOU FEEL THAT YOU SEE A DIFFERENCE IN YOUR CHILD'S BEHAVIORS, REACH OUT TO YOUR CHILD'S SCHOOL COUNSELOR OR YOUR SCHOOLS MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELOR THROUGH THE DISTRICT TO DISCUSS THESE CHANGES AND THINGS THAT CAN BE DONE AT HOME AND AT SCHOOL TO HELP.

QUESTION TO ASK YOUR CHILD THIS WEEK: WHAT'S ONE POSITIVE THING SOMEONE DID FOR YOU AT SCHOOL THIS WEEK?
