The counselors have a special "Counselor's Corner" in the cafeteria during all three of our lunches. During this time we welcome students to access us so we may provide support to them! Students may also access their grade level counselor by obtaining a pass from the grade level secretary.
Parenting Corner
Although your middle schooler is becoming more independent and may be involved in activities outside the family, you should and must remain the most influential person in his life. Through your involvement in school and extracurricular, you can help your child believe in the value and importance of education, be enthusiastic about learning and achieve academic and social/emotional success.
Tips for Parents:
1. Help your child manage homework/enrichment activity time. Encourage her to aim high and always do her best work. Check with teachers and our online Schoology system for support.
2. Show interest in his studies by talking with him daily about what he's learning and doing in school. Ask him what he was proud of that day. If he is upset about something, ask him what he can control and what he may want to do differently. Ask him who he may want to go to for help.
3. Contact counselors, administrators, and teachers periodically. Find out what your child should be learning, how she is progressing, and how you can help. Be a full partner in your child's education.
4. Encourage her to pursue interests and make friends through extracurricular activities. Be certain, however, that she selects no more than a few activities so she has adequate time for schoolwork. Try to help her find a balance; this will take compromise and patience.
5. Know his friends. Who does your child hang out with? Know where your child is at all times. Be clear and consistent with discipline.
6. Encourage him to get to know his counselor and to maintain contact throughout his middle-school years, if possible. Not only will the counselor be invaluable in supporting his academic path, she's also one of many potential adult role models for your child.
7. Attend parent meetings, open houses, booster clubs, parent education groups, and other activities for parents.
8. Consistently acknowledge and reward efforts at school. When your child shows that wonderful effort, your acknowledgment motivates him to persist.
Digital Citizenship
"Digital citizens think critically about what they see online and learn to make their own smart choices online and in life. That means understanding the benefits and risks of sharing information, knowing the difference between a credible news source and a sponsored ad, and balancing screen time with other activities."
Referrals to See the Counselor
All students have access to the counselor through whole group guidance. In addition to guidance lessons, some students visit with the counselor in small group counseling sessions. Individual students may self-refer to the counselor using individual counselor passes. Click on the buttons below to link to the confidential counselor referral form for your grade level.
You may also click on the main counselor webpage and navigate to your grade level counselor's individual page.
