Open House today

The 20th is our big launch day! We wish we could be together in person, but we are doing the next best thing. Romig is hosting a virtual Open House. Please click on the link below to watch our welcome video.

Zoom Details

Lessons will or may be recorded for later access by students enrolled in the course. Students are not required to display their live image through the video function. Cameras capture not only the student but also background content within the camera’s frame. We request that students show their live image for attendance.

What do I do on the 20th?

On the first day of school, August 20th, students will receive an orientation for each of their three classes, along with an overview of the first two weeks of curriculum. The link for Zoom meetings will be in Canvas. For the first Zoom meetings, staff will also email the link to parents on the 19th just in case students are having trouble navigating Canvas before teacher instruction.

Canvas for students

Classroom teachers will go over the details of how to use Canvas with students during the first day of school via zoom meetings. Here are some Canvas basics for your student.



How students access Canvas


1--Follow this link https://asdk12.instructure.com/ or Google “ASD Canvas Login” and click the first link.

2--Next, sign in the way you normally would to access your student GoogleDocs, which is with your Anchorage School District username (lastname.firstname) and password (student ID number for most students).

3--You must agree to the terms, and then it should take you to the dashboard of your Canvas classes. If you have any problems, you can email the teacher for the class you are trying to enter/join.

Canvas for parents/guardian

Canvas is a learning management system used by ASD teachers to offer personalized content and learning paths to students. Canvas Parent Observer accounts allow parents to see student progress in Canvas-hosted courses, monitoring grades and assignments. Please click on the button below for step-by-step instructions.

Schedules could change...

Our counseling team has worked very hard to build a new schedule and place students correctly in classes. Please know your student's schedule could change in the next few weeks to balance courses, etc. We did our best to select an elective from the student's original request list. Please remember they will have other electives as the year goes by. If there is a concern about a class, please email 7th-grade requests to hymas_mindy@asdk12.org and 8th-grade requests to mercereau_moriah@asdk12.org. Change request will be accepted until August 28th.

PTSA Info

The Romig PTSA (Parent Teacher Student Association) will continue to support students and staff during virtual and in-person school however we can throughout this school year. This year, more than ever, we welcome families to join the PTSA and be involved in your child's education at Romig. It costs just $11/year to join ($25 for a family). PTSA meetings are open to all members, and they are a great way to find out what's happening "behind the scenes" at Romig.

We are also looking for PTSA members to fill some Board positions, including Vice President, Communications, and School Store. Note that the school store position will be "at-large" until school is open fully and the school store can be run normally again.

Chromebooks

ASD is working diligently to get Chromebooks out to students. Families who have signed up to receive a chromebook through their schools and have not yet received one will receive an email and robo call the day before their scheduled delivery. In the call and email, families will receive specific information on the timing and location of their delivery. It is imperative to make sure someone is at the delivery point, on time.


Many families are still waiting on the Chromebooks and we are aware that you might not have them for the first few days of class. Don't worry we know if you have not received one. The first few weeks of classes are intended to be a time for getting to know students and creating community. Once your Chromebook has arrived your student will be able to log into an 8 am zoom session with Mrs. Hopkins for a Canvas tutorial. She will show you the ropes and answer your questions.
