MCAS Week

Our students and staff are all geared up to take the computer-based English Language Arts MCAS test this week. On Monday and Wednesday, the following classes will take sessions 1 and 2 - Mr. Lyon, Mrs. Robinson, Mrs. Williford. On Tuesday and Thursday, the following classes will take sessions 1 and 2 - Mrs. Russell, Mrs. Sullivan, Mrs. Okun, Ms. Martin. Friday is our make-up day. All week, the school will not be open to visitors in an effort to maintain the most calm and focused environment for our test takers. While the test is not timed, it is estimated that students will work from about 8:45 to 11:15. Those who are not finished at that time, will take a short break and go to the Library to finish the test. It is very important that 3rd graders arrive at school on time during MCAS testing days. We also ask that you support your child by getting them to bed early and providing a healthy breakfast, and a snack to bring to school. Teachers are doing a variety of activities to keep students calm and confident, but you can also help by assuring students that the test helps teachers know how we can do better. Remind your child that all we expect is that they do their very best on each question. Try to send the message that this is a chance for them to show off everything they've worked so hard to learn all year long. We'd like them to embrace this opportunity and approach it with optimism and a sense of perseverance.
