Teach Like A Pirate Day Was A Success

Teaching Like A Pirate (TLAP) is very simply engaging students in activities in order to try to create experiences instead of just lessons for children. For this this year's first TLAP day, I invited some of our central office administrators over to share some of their passions and their expertise. Dr. Edwards, our Superintendent, Dr. Zuckerman, our Director of Curriculum and Instruction and Mrs. Hayes, our Humanities Supervisor took me up on the idea. Joining them were many of our specialists and academic support personnel who don't always get to step out of the box in order to create these experiences.

We ran a early dismissal schedule in order to have time from 1-2:30 to TLAP. It was amazing to see students so happy to see new staff and different ideas presented to them in order to make their learning deeper. If you get the chance, make sure you ask your child about what they did during Teach Like A Pirate.

Building with KFC Buckets

For years Mrs. Weister has had students use old KFC buckets to work on collaboration and creativity as they build shapes and forms. Thanks to Mrs. Jerez of our PTO and KFC's generosity, we recently acquired 2000 new KFC buckets so that students can continue to participate in this fun and exciting activity.
