The Wildcat Word
2018-09-11
Welcome to the 2018/18 School Year at Welborne! Today marks one week since out first day of school and we've had a great start! Thank-you for your efforts in supporting our staff to make the transition (back) to school smoothly for everyone.
Like last year, to reduce our paper consumption, we will be sending subsequent editions of the Wildcat Word electronically. You will of course, have the option to unsubscribe at any time. Most families will already be on our list – but if you know someone who needs to be added, please ask them to:
- Send an email with the subject line: "Electronic Newsletter for ____________"(list your child or children's names) to: welba@limestone.on.ca
We are thrilled to be learning together again with such a wonderful community. Thank you to all who have welcomed back both of us. We are excited about the great things to come this year!
~ Ms. Lacoursiere and Mr. McFarlane

Medical Forms
Most families with students who require special care for a medical condition or take medication while at school, have already filled out medical forms for this school year. If your child has a new condition or is new to the school and requires special care, please notify our office (613-389-0188 or stop by) so that the appropriate arrangements and paperwork can be completed. A reminder to please check the expiry dates on all medications to ensure they are current.
School Council – All Families Welcome!
If you are interested in joining School Council, helping out occasionally, or just want to see what it is all about, please consider coming to the first meeting on Monday September 17 @ 6:15 p.m. in the school library. Elections will also take place that evening. You do not need to be an elected member of School Council to attend meetings.
Important Forms
September is the time for forms! Please review, sign and return the following forms:
Already sent home:
· Accident Insurance Application Package (this is optional but the LDSB does require proof of accident insurance for students participating in extra-curricular activities)
· $5 to donate towards the cost of agendas (optional). These are an important communication tool but a significant cost to the school. Your donation is very much appreciated.
· Notice of Threat Assessment (already sent home)
Coming home soon:
· Computer Use Agreement
· Data Verification Form and Freedom of Information.
· Athletics Form
Open House/BBQ and Bookfair
Our Book Fair will be held at school from September 24 - September 27. Our Open House will take place on the last day, Thursday September 27. We hope you can join us! The schedule is:
- 4:00 - 5:00 p.m. - Book Fair in the Library is open for visits
- 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. - Classroom Visits (your child can show you his or her class)
- 5:30 p.m. - Classroom Visits conclude, everyone gathers outside
- 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. - BBQ Meet and Greet around the front of the school
Please note that the open house is a great opportunity to meet your child’s teacher and see their learning environment, but it is not the time for an interview to discuss your child’s progress as the staff have many families they would like to meet. Instead of asking the teacher, “How is she (or he) doing?”, please introduce yourself to the teacher and ask your child to show you where they sit, what they are working on, what they like to do, etc.
Cross-Country Running
Cross Country Running is here for students in grades 3 to 8! Training begins on Thursday September 13, and practices are on Day 3 and Day 5 at afternoon recess (1:10-1:40 p.m.). There are a limited number of practices before the Regional Meet the week of October 9 at Fort Henry - runners who wish to participate in this meet need to attend the majority of practices. Parents and Guardians are welcome to run with us! Thanks in advance to our coaches Mme Irvine, Mrs. Blackburn and Mrs. Doucet.
Soccer
Soccer has started! Both Intermediate and Junior Soccer Teams are in full swing and are looking forward to some upcoming tournaments. Thanks to Ms. Leger, Mr. Large, Mr. McFarlane and parent volunteer Mr. Ross for coaching.
Safe Welcome and Safe Entry
Parents are asked to notify the school on the safe arrival line (613-389-0188) if your child is going to be late or absent. Please leave a message on the answering machine before 8:30 a.m., identifying the caller, the student and the reason and length of time for the absence. Please note that messages can be left on this line 24 hours/day for your convenience. Our school doors are kept locked during the day to ensure student safety. Parents and visitors must report to the main office. Please do not proceed directly into the school building. If you wish to speak to a teacher, the office will make sure to pass on your request. When picking up students at the end of the day, please meet your children at the designated area outside. Thank-you for helping to keep our students safe!
