Principal's Message

Dear Falcon Families,

As we enter Winter Break, we want you to know how incredibly thankful we are to serve such a generous and engaged community. Your partnership is essential as we strive to know, value, and support each Falcon. From the Falcon Top 10 to the revival of our music program to the amazing generosity of our community, we have a lot to celebrate and be thankful for this holiday season. Perhaps most importantly, we are seeing many of our Falcons growing in character and becoming tremendous servant leaders in our community.

It is fitting that empathy, understanding and connecting to other people's feeling, is December's character trait. Empathy in action showed up throughout the VFE community this month. Thanks to our partnership with East Pierce Fire and Rescue, 28 Falcons received much-needed warm coats for the winter. The Blue Crew supported 23 families with holiday gifts for 43 kids. And our amazing students stepped up to serve and care for neighbors in need as well. The students in Mrs. Schmitz's class brought in 159 toys in their annual Toy Drive. The fourth-grade Sock and Hygiene drive led by Ms. Severson's class brought in 1,000 items. Students wrote over 1,300 notes thank and encouraging each other throughout the month. And, student council, in partnership with the PTO, raised funds to donate over $200 to a local agency supporting families in crisis. Amazing!

We encourage you to take time to connect with your kids over Winter Break--play a game, put a puzzle together, shoot hoops, or read a good book together. We hope that this season is full of joy and peace.

Let's make 2023 an incredible year to be a Falcon!

Student Council Partners with WRCO

White River Community Outreach, in partnership with the Bonney Lake Foodbank, provides a safety net for our most vulnerable neighbors. WRCO's outreach specialist helps our neighbors navigate through the red tape and provides immediate support. This outreach includes referrals, support, and crisis management. In times of crisis, turning to a trusted source for some of life's basic necessities, such as housing, energy assistance, family support, food, clothing, etc. is essential. WRCO is helping east Pierce County residents navigate their way through the maze of social and human services. With donations from the community, WRCO ensures families are able to stay in their homes with utility and rental assistance; gas cards to help customers get to work and appointments, provide families and individuals with holiday help; and pass out hygiene products, tents, sleeping bags, and other basic needs to those in need. You can support their efforts by donating directly to WRCO

Schmitz's Class Annual Toy Drive

Thank you to everyone who donated! Mrs. Schmitz's class was able to collect about 159 toys to donate to families in our community that could use a little support this holiday season.

4th Grade Hygiene and Sock Drive UPDATE

Thank you to everyone for participating in the Hygiene and Sock Drive. Together, we were able to collect over 1,000 items! WRCO will use these items to support our neighbors in need.

PurposeFull Family

We wish all students and their families a happy Winter Break! In January, we will focus on the trait of Perseverance. Until then, keep encouraging your young ones to practice empathy over the next several weeks! We hope your holiday time is a positive and joyful one. Have a great New Year, and we look forward to seeing everyone in 2023!

Meet Stefanie Kilborn!

Stefanie Kilborn will be filling in for Heather Mueller while she is on maternity leave. She has also met with Ms. Mueller and the class already and is excited to be at VFE. Some of you will recognize Stefanie from her time in Jill Riddell’s class last year. Stefanie just finished student teaching and earned her Master in Elementary Education. She has three children of her own, Kai (15), Capri (12), and Casey (9). Stefanie enjoys skiing, paddle boarding, and camping.

Meet Courtney Durbin!

Courtney Durbin will be filling in for Ms. Hubbard while she is on maternity leave and has already met her class and planned with Ms. Hubbard. And, some of you may recognize Ms. Durbin. She is a Falcon through and through--she went to VFE as a kid! Ms. Durbin loves the outdoors and camping is her favorite vacation. She has a dachshund, Winston. And, all of you Cougs will be glad to know she is a WSU grad.

VFE Music Program Updates

Our 5th graders did an outstanding job overcoming challenges (rescheduling due to snow and a lot of sick kids) to perform beautifully (many for the first time) at our Start of the Season concert. Each song was introduced by a very poised student. Check out the Start of the Season link below to enjoy the show. If you weren't able to make it to the Holiday Sing-Along, please see the link below as well.

We are always looking to improve our musical performances at VFE

Please feel free to provide feedback at this link...Performing Arts Feedback if you attended the 5th Grade Concert or Sing Along.

If you are questioning whether your child should stay home, please contact the school nurse; she may be able to help.

Falcon Basketball

We had a fantastic turnout for basketball--over 30 fourth and fifth-grade students participated this year. In addition to learning some fundamentals, the students did a great job learning to become supportive teammates and show great sportsmanship to their opponents. The Falcons played well at the jamboree, winning all but their first game of the night. Thank you, Coach Luciana, for leading and serving our kids.
