Husky Highlight
February 10, 2020
Note from Ms. Moulton
Happy 100th Day of School! What an awesome year it has been so far!
I am happy to share an update on the Hosmer construction project. We are on track for the construction of our new building! Attached below you can find a document including renderings of the exterior and a typical classroom, along with a schematic of the building.
Over the February break, we are beginning some internal office and small classroom moves in anticipation of our larger move out of the Connector, which will begin as soon as school ends for the year.
A number of families have asked about lunch and recess spaces. Given that PreK classrooms will be moving to the Philips building, we will be serving and eating lunch in rooms 1 & 2 (currently two kindergarten classrooms). In collaboration with the Superintendent, our move/space consultants, the fire department, the Head of Nutrition Programs, the Director of Facilities, and the Board of Health, we have determined that this is an ideal space. These classrooms are quite large and together provide enough space for lunch to be served and for an entire grade level to eat. It will also allow us to preserve the small gym so that it can be used for Physical Education classes throughout the day.
While a portion of the field will continue to be available for outdoor play, we are also looking into fencing in the courtyard area outside of the Kindergarten entrance. The courtyard area is quite large and will allow for space for students to play, run, and interact with each other. We will be working to ensure that there are many opportunities for physical play and that appropriate play equipment will be available to students. These two areas will provide students with safe and accessible areas to run and play during the time of our construction.
There will soon be a community forum with our architects, Ai3. When that date is established, I will be sure to communicate it with you in a timely manner.
As always, thank you for your support of our fantastic school!

Additionally, we are working on a collaborative mural in which each class is contributing a piece. We hope to be able to share a photo of the finished project once we return from February break!
Given the February break, we anticipate that this learning will continue into March.
What Did the Husky See?
This week I had a blast in Ms. Salvucci’s Class! Mama Echo took me under her wing (hehe get it?) and showed me the ropes. I also got to hang out with another stuffed pup named Poco! It was nice meeting new animal friends, but it was even BETTER meeting my new HUMAN friends! They were all so nice! Ms. Salvucci’s class taught me their classroom rules and we practiced being safe, respectful, responsible, and kind.
In morning meeting, I learned all of my new friends’ names and even had a dance party!
In Math, we solved subtraction problems. They even included me in a story problem. In the story problem, I had 17 treats (I wish) and ate 9 (yum). I learned that I had 8 left over. 17-9=8
In Fundations, we worked on blends. Did you know Husky has a blend in it? Husky.
In Readers' Workshop, the kids read me their non-fiction books. They even marked up interesting parts to share with their reading partners and me! They found some pretty neat facts. I was very impressed!
In writing, we started writing how-to books! This was my favorite because I helped the class make play-dough! Then, we wrote out all the steps to make it. That was so fun! I had to be careful my fur didn’t get into the sticky dough.
Well, now I have to go rest up. I have another exciting week ahead!
Best wishes!

School and District Report Cards from DESE
Dear Families:
Every year, each public school and school district in Massachusetts receives a report card. Just as your child’s report card shows how they are doing in different subjects, the school’s report card is designed to show families how our school is doing in different areas. A link to our school’s report card is available HERE, and is available online in multiple languages at that link.Teaching & Learning Updates, Mid-Winter 2020
