Message from the Principal

Westbrook Families,

It has been a great week here at Westbrook! Many students have brought in canned food items to contribute to our Character Counts food drive that will benefit the Northfield Pantry. The food drive will continue all next week so if you are able to contribute please send any items with your student! Thank you to those families that have already contributed!

A huge THANKS to our PTA for putting together a wonderful plan for our fall festival next week. Students will participate in fall themed games and activities throughout the week and classes will have an opportunity to take a class photo with donated decorations from local establishments! THANKS PTA!

SHIELD testing continues to go well and each week we are able to submit more test samples. Students are learning how to give saliva samples and routines are established and going well. Starting on Monday the district will open enrollment for anyone wishing to OPT IN to SHIELD testing. Please know that if you OPT IN your student would be eligible for our "test to stay" program should they be a close contact in school or on the school bus. We continue to work on ways to achieve distancing at lunch to help minimize the number of close contacts during the lunch hour. More information to come in the upcoming weeks! Just a friendly reminder that we do not have school on November 1, as this is a teacher institute day. We will not be SHIELD testing this week at Westbrook.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Picture Retake Day

Color Portraits, our school photographer, will be here on Thursday, October 28th from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. to do picture retakes.

If your child was not in attendance on our original photo day, he/she can be photographed on this day. If you ordered a photo package and are not satisfied, the retake policy is described in your child’s photo package. Please have your child bring the entire package back to school on retake day and let your child's classroom know. Afternoon kindergarten students will need to come at 9:00 a.m. for their picture retakes and then return home until their class begins at 1:00.

Character Counts Food Drive

Beginning Monday, October 18 to Friday, October 29, the students of District 34, District 30 and Our Lady of Perpetual Help, are coming together in conjunction with Character Counts Week to collect food items for donations to the local pantry.

What Should We Give?

The Northfield Township Food Pantry has received tremendous community support meeting the needs of our residents during the pandemic. Unfortunately there are still significant challenges simply sourcing enough food in appropriate household sizes.

Some of the most important items that are difficult to stock in sufficient numbers are canned proteins such as tuna, chicken, salmon, beef stew, pasta with meat i.e. SpaghettiOs, beans; soup; rice and pasta mixes and shelf-stable potatoes.

Beginning Monday 10/18, PTA volunteers will be counting the number of food items brought into Westbrook! We will use "cans" to track but really all items will be counted through 10/29.

Where do I donate food items?

We have collection boxes set up at Westbrook. Please drop off food items during school hours -- or -- send items with your student.

I need an EASY way to participate! Great -- cash is ALWAYS preferred as it is the most flexible kind of donation for the food pantry to use. Plus, each $1 = 5 cans in our count so we will meet our goals quickly with cash donations! You can use the donation link below.

100% of cash donations
(minus the minimal processing fee)
goes to the Northfield Township Food Pantry!

Thank you for your help in supporting our community in whatever way you can!

Dress Up Guidelines for Halloween

This year Westbrook will still take part in celebrating Halloween however due current health guidelines there will be many changes to our "typical" celebrations.

Students will be allowed to come to school in costumes on Friday, October 29.

As you and your students prepare for Halloween, please keep in mind our Westbrook guidelines:

  • Please do not let your child bring any type of weapon, fantasy or look-alike. This includes plastic swords, fake guns, or anything that could be perceived as a weapon.
  • Costumes that are violent or bloody are not allowed.
  • Masks(that are part of a costume or that cover the entire face) are not allowed at school.
  • For safety reasons, please be sure that your child can see and walk around easily in his/her costume.
  • If you have any doubts about the appropriateness of any portion of your child’s costume, please contact your teacher or the main office and we will be glad to advise you.

In addition to our original guidelines, here are a few additional notes about our celebrations this year.

  • All students must wear a mask(face covering) and a mask that is part of a costume does not take the place of a mask(face covering) used each day.
  • Unfortunately, there will not be a parent parade this year or parent volunteers
  • Classroom parties will be modified. There will be no food allowed and all activities will be teacher directed. The PTA will be providing activities for Westbrook students!

We are committed to keeping our students at Westbrook safe and healthy and while I know these changes are different, I am confident that our staff will make Halloween celebrations memorable for our students!
