Into the Thick of AVID
September 2021
Pushing Forward with Tutorials, Celebrations, Events
Greetings AVID Family:
The month of September has kicked into overdrive. We have a ton of great and amazing things happening and we just want to let everyone know about the celebrations at Clark High School. There are some additional items we are including in this year's monthly newsletters like, celebrating our awesome AVID educators and showcasing those outstanding lessons happening outside of the AVID Elective classroom. But, the things that will definitely remain will be highlighting two AVID students from each grade level, sharing college and career information and, highlighting the AVID elective. So we are warning you, the newsletters will be hefty with content.😃 Continue scrolling.
Family Corner (formerly Parent's Corner)
Another requirement of AVID students is to be active school/community members. To help our students build the necessary skills post-high school and to ease the college admissions process, the Event Page will be helpful documentation to highlight the growth and achievement of your scholar. The Event Page is on a blue paper in your scholar's AVID Binder that documents their activities every 9 weeks. The Event page has varying activities depending on the 9 weeks. Currently, we are asking that students find an adult mentor on campus, be a participant in extra-curricular or clubs, and complete 3 hours of community service. Students have agency with the Event Page, but parent signatures are not allowed as evidence of participation. Please review the Event Page and do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns. The first AVID Event Page will be due October 1.

AVID Student Spotlights for September
Grant Bernhardt
Nevaeh Jones
Mia Zamora
Emma Kohler
I am highlighting Emma for being a quiet but confident AVID leader, one who is always organized, always on task, always an amazing teammate, and one who lets me throw challenging things at her (like being a tutor-student leader) with ZERO complaints. Emma exemplifies everything we’re looking for in an AVID student – she’s got that INDIVIDUAL determination to do amazing things.
