Here are some helpful tips and tricks when troubleshooting your Chromebook. Always "shut down" your Chromebook as your first step in troubleshooting (this is not just closing the lid). Remember to keep your Chromebook fully charged.
How to Connect to the Internet
- "Click" the menu (bottom right corner)
- "Locate" Wi-fi symbol
- "Click" on the drop down menu
- "Click" on the wi-fi network you can access
- Enter the password if it is required to access the wi-fi network
- "Click" connect
Troubleshooting
- Shut down your chromebook
- Turn off the wi-fi and then back on again. The toggle switch is located in the system menu below the settings gear.
Touchpad Tricks
- Right Click- Tap with two fingers on the touchpad or place your mouse on the item you want right clicked and press ALT + ENTER.
- Scroll- Move two fingers up and down on the touchpad.
- Click- Tap with one finger to select.
- Swipe- move two fingers left and right on the touchpad.
Rotated Screen
Press ctrl+shift+refresh. The refresh key is the open circle with the arrow on the end. This makes your screen rotate 90 degrees so keep doing this until the screen is back in correct position.
Choosing US keyboard
"Click" the menu (bottom right corner)
"Locate" the keyboard in the menu and make sure US Keyboard is checked
Screen - How to Change Size
- To make the screen bigger: Press Ctrl and + (plus).
- To make the screen smaller: Press Ctrl and - (minus).
- Reset Screen: Press Ctrl and 0 (zero).
Showing Accessibility in the System Menu
- "Click" the menu (bottom right corner)
- "Click" Settings (upper right corner)
"Scroll" to bottom of Settings and "click" Advanced
"Click" Accessibility
Slide the button by "clicking" to “Always show accessibility options in system menu”
Keyboard Displayed on Screen
"Click" the menu (bottom right corner)
"Click" Settings (upper right corner)
"Scroll" to bottom of Settings and "click" Advance
"Click" Accessibility
"Click" Manage Accessibility Features
Go to Display
Slide the button by "clicking" to turn off or enable On-Screen Keyboard
or
- "Click" the menu (bottom right corner)
- "Locate" Accessibility
- "Click" the drop down menu
- "Scroll" to On-Screen keyboard
- "Click" on On-Screen keyboard to add or remove
High Contrast Mode- Looks similar to a photo negative
To change colors back to normal
"Click" the menu (bottom right corner)
"Click" Settings (upper right corner)
"Scroll" to bottom of Settings and "click" Advanced
"Click" Accessibility
"Click" Manage Accessibility Features
Go to Display
Slide the button by "clicking" to turn off or enable High Contrast Mode

- "Click" the menu (bottom right corner)
- "Locate" Accessibility
- "Click" the drop down menu
- "Scroll" to High contrast mode
- "Click" on High contrast mode to add or remove
Circle Around Mouse
"Click" the menu (bottom right corner)
"Click" Settings (upper right corner)
"Scroll" to bottom of Settings and "click" Advanced
"Click" Accessibility
"Click" Manage Accessibility Features
Go to Mouse and touchpad
Slide the button by "clicking" to turn off Highlight the mouse cursor when its moving
or
- "Click" the menu (bottom right corner)
- "Locate" Accessibility
- "Click" the drop down menu
- "Scroll" to Additional Settings
- "Click" on Highlight mouse cursor to add or remove the circle around the mouse
Change the Mouse Cursor Size
"Click" the menu (bottom right corner)
"Click" Settings (upper right corner)
"Scroll" to bottom of Settings and "click" Advanced
"Click" Accessibility
"Click" Manage Accessibility Features
Go to Mouse and touchpad
Slide the button by "clicking" to turn off Show large mouse cursor
or
- "Click" the menu (bottom right corner)
- "Locate" Accessibility
- "Click" the drop down menu
- "Scroll" to Additional Settings
- "Click" on Large mouse cursor to add or remove
