Meet Mr. Nelson! New BOE Member
Neil Nelson joins the board of education in Widefield School District 3 (WSD3). President Charron Schoenberger swore in Mr. Nelson at special board meeting on January 19.
Mr. Nelson is a third generation Coloradan, born and raised in Pueblo where he attended public schools. After graduating from Southern Colorado State, now CSU Pueblo, with a bachelor of science in biology and teaching certificate, Neil and his wife Debbie began teaching in the district. Both their children, Erik and Keri, attended Widefield schools. Erik currently coaches cross-country at Widefield High School.
Mr. Nelson served 32 years in WSD3 teaching science and serving on numerous committees and task forces. He is also a past president of the Widefield Education Association and the Pikes Peak Education Association. Mr. Nelson retired from the district in 2006 and has served as a substitute teacher. He says he supports public education and feels the needs of students must always come first.
