Wrestling:
the pursuit of their second city conference title is becoming more and more intense as the season wears on for coach Brad Novacheck and the Humboldt wrestlers. The Hawks currently sit in first place in the conference, and would have had the opportunity to lock up the conference championship last week against Harding if not for a COVID related reschedule. Now, the Hawks have a few extra days to prepare for their conference match, and cut their teeth against some tough non-conference foes. Humboldt has done very well in their non-conference slate thus far into the season with their most recent non-conference victory coming over Minneapolis Southwest by a score of 66-18. The Hawks will host their west side rivals Saint Croix Lutheran this Wednesday at 5:00 PM. The Match is part of a triangular, meaning the Hawks will also face the minutemen of Central High School at 7:00 PM. If they Hawks defeat central they will move to 5-0 in conference play.
Girls Basketball
Two important milestones occurred for the Humboldt girl's basketball team over break. on 12/29/21, the Hawks secured their first victory of the season over Nova Classical Academy in the Mounds Park Academy winter tournament. Secondly, on 1/4/22, Senior Lili Hobday scored her 1,000th career point!! This is a major milestone that many high school basketball players never achieve. We are very proud of Lili for this accomplishment! The Girls basketball team is looking to build off of their success during break by hosting Hope Academy Tuesday evening at 6:00 PM. Goodluck girls' basketball!
Boys Basketball
The youth movement with our Boys Basketball team continues to show improvement throughout the season. Now playing with no seniors, Junior Jorge Irizarry has stepped up as a leader for the team. The Junior point guard looked strong against New Life Academy last week, and held his composure the entire game. His teammates took notice, and followed his lead by playing hard for the full 36 minutes of the game, and never wavering in their belief that they had a chance to win. Coach Garcia has done a great job instilling the values of hard work, commitment and dedication in this year's group. They will be reaping the rewards of their hard work from this season next year as the entire Varsity roster will be returning. The Boys Basketball team will be on the road at Johnson High School on 1/11/22, and then will finish the week by hosting Central High School on Friday, 1/14/22. Both games will begin at 7:00 PM.
Boys Swimming and Diving
The boys swim and dive team has made it through the tough part of their schedule, and looks to build some momentum going into the end of the swim season. They were slated to swim against Harding on 1/5/22, however due to a COVID situation within the Harding swim team, the meet had to be postponed. The Hawks will now swim against the Knights This Thursday, 1/13/22 at 7:00 PM. The meet will be held in the Humboldt pool. Goodluck Hawk Swimmers!
