M-Step Testing
M-Step Testing Windows:
- 5th Grade: April 9th-May 4th
- 3rd and 4th Grade: April 30th-May 25th
Students are tested in the areas of English Language Arts and Mathematics. Additionally, students in 5th Grade will be tested in the area of Science and Social Studies.
Attendance is very important during these testing days! Please make sure that your child arrives to school on time and try to avoid early dismissals during the testing days. If your child is unable to come to school, we will have scheduled days for students to make up testing during the testing period.
Please assist your child in helping to perform his/her best by:
Having your child get a good night's sleep.
Having your child eat a good breakfast, packing water, and healthy snacks.
Encouraging your child to do their best and assisting to relieve any anxiety associated with testing. Positive, "You can do it", messages are helpful :)
Should you have any questions about M-Step testing, please contact your child's teacher. We thank you for helping to prepare your child for the M-Step and ensuring attendance during the testing periods.
Construction Starting Soon At NSE
Construction is scheduled to begin May 29th. Therefore, all of the impacted office spaces need to be cleared out and relocated by May 25th. The Main Office staff will be moving into the smaller offices off of the main hallway. Additionally, the front office staff will be positioned in the Main Hallway to assist visitors and monitor the Main Entrance which will be accessible as usual via buzzed entry.
In order to prepare for construction to begin, we are in the process of moving. Please excuse the mess as we prepare. We have a staging plan as we begin the process of shifting people and spaces in a sequenced way so that we can ensure the least amount of disruption to students as possible.
We will keep you apprised of progress as we get updates on timelines.
The following year (summer 2019) renovations will be made to specified interior spaces as well as a parking lot redesign.
Stay tuned! If you have questions, please feel free to contact us.

Placement Requests for 2018-2019 School Year
Here is information about the Placement Request process, should you choose to make a request for your child next year.
First, we DO NOT honor requests for a specific teacher, as staffing changes can occur throughout the summer. Staffing is based on student enrollment which changes throughout the summer months. Staff are often hired during the summer months due to vacancies, and at times, this can cause internal shifting as well. Finally, as decisions are made when placing students, it is the entire class make-up that is taken into account. The NSE staff are deliberate and thorough throughout this decisioning process looking at all contributing factors, including: gender, class size, as well as academic, social and emotional needs.
That said, you are welcome to write a letter of request that is based on or shares:
- A desired teaching style/approach
- Your input regarding what is a "best fit" for your child
Letters of request should be sent to the office by Friday, June 1st
