West Senior High Week of January 30th, 2023
CALENDAR

UPDATES
- Semester 1 Final Grades: Most students can view their final "S1" grades as they are entered in PowerSchool but grades are not verified and official until approximately February 1st. We will notify students and e-mail an updated transcript report once all grades (including CTC and NMC) are finalized.
- Snowcoming Dance: Student Senate is hosting a semi-formal snowcoming dance on March 4th at West. Tickets will go on sale around February 20th. This dance will be limited to a maximum of 750 participants and is only for current West students or pre-registered guests from Central High or TC High attending with a West student.
- West Senior High School Bus Routes - Temporary Changes
- Jan. 30, 31, Feb. 3, 6, 7 - AM Busing Only;No PM Busing
Career Tech transportation: Bus from WSH to CTC runs as normal. There will be a bus from CTC back to WSH at the end of the school day if CTC students need to catch bata or another option home from WSH on these dates.
- Career Tech Center does NOT have school on Wednesday, February 1st. WSH CTC students are encouraged to arrange self-transport home on that day after their third hour (11:12am). Otherwise, you can catch your regular bus home from West afterschool.
2023-24 Course Request Info
2023-24 Enrollment Timeline:
1.25.2023 - informational letter goes out to students and parents (please go back and read this e-mail if you missed it)
1.30.2023 - Course enrollment presentation to 1st hour students
2.1.2023 - sophomores visit CTC during the school day to observe programs they can enroll in for next year
2.2.2023 - lesson around entering course requests into PowerSchool during 3rd hour classes
*Academic Communities (STEM/SMT, Global, The Arts): Students that are interested in joining any of our Academic Communities do not need to indicate that during the course request process (this includes no application/interview for new students entering Sci-Ma-Tech). Students should request the courses in their area of interest including honors or AP where available. Routine sign up for Communities will happen closer to the end of the year and again at the start of next year.

For West students interested in traveling to SPAIN!
There will be an informational meeting Tuesday, January 24th at WHS in the LMC at 7PM. The trip will take place in June 2024 and the co-directors will be Tamara Batcha from WHS and Nikki Vanderkolk-Rine from WMS.
Participants must be enrolled in TCAPS and must have completed level 2 Spanish prior to departing on the trip.
Please park on the East side of the building to gain entry to the library through the main doors for the meeting.
Superintendent Monthly Office Hours
Held Monthly, Open to the Community
TCAPS Superintendent, Dr. John VanWagoner, will have monthly “office hours”, alternating each month between in person and virtual meetings. In person office hours will be held at Horizon Books, 243 E. Front Street, Traverse City, MI 49684 on the second floor (mezzanine level). Virtual office hours will be held via Google Meet and can be accessed here or by calling +7 707-785-6547 and entering PIN: 692 435 167#. All meetings begin at 5:00 pm. The alternating schedule will be as follows:
