Celebrate the Season
New Albany - Plain Local Schools
Dear New Albany Families, Staff & Students,
I want to wish our entire community a safe and fun-filled Winter Recess! May the holiday break provide time to rest, relax, make memories, play, and recharge for 2020.
As we look to the new year, we pause to reflect upon the accomplishments, challenges, and opportunities we have experienced over the past twelve months. Each year we pause to reflect on the moments that make New Albany-Plain Local an exceptional experience for students, staff and community. It is not only a time to reflect on our world here at NAPLS but to individually reflect on our own lives and value those things that fulfill, support and make us whole.
Our school district is committed to creating a culture of accountability that achieves the best academic and developmental outcomes for each student. We continue our focus on student achievement, student growth, and student well-being. This core purpose drives our curriculum, assessment, instruction, and social-emotional learning practices for over 5,050 PK-12 students across our school campus daily.
Highlights for Fall of 2019
As we reflect upon this past year, we have much to celebrate and to be thankful for. A few of the most significant accomplishments since school began in August include:
Increasing academic achievement results to be ranked #17 of 611 public school districts in Ohio to earn the highest ranking of all Franklin County school districts
100% of our third graders achieved the Third Grade Guarantee for the 3rd year in a row
Superior classroom instruction and services by our caring and dedicated faculty, staff, administration, and Board of Education
The announcement of our record-setting 16 National Merit Semi-Finalists at NAHS
Strengthening well-being support and programs for our students via school counselors, prevention clinicians, nurses, and clinic aides
Integration of the The R Factor into our daily school culture while progress monitoring other researched based student well-being programs
Continued student access and participation in the Jefferson Series thanks to the New Albany Community Foundation
278 of our eighth graders extending their learning beyond the classroom by traveling to Washington D.C. while other classmates participated in service learning projects to benefit our community
Outstanding performances of Godspell Jr. and Beauty and the Beast by our middle and high school thespians
Renowned performances by our elementary, middle, or high school band, choir, and orchestra students
Countless hours of volunteerism and support from our parents/guardians and community to benefit over 5,000 students
Expanded partnerships and future planning with local businesses, the City of New Albany, the New Albany Police Department, and the Plain Township Fire Department
Installation of primary school and high school roofs, Early Learning Center Playground, middle and high school boilers, and lighting retrofitting as part of our permanent improvements to repair and replace original capital assets over twenty years old on our school campus
The NAHS Girls Golf Team winning their second consecutive State Championship while smashing records, yet again
And, the NAHS Boys and Girls Golf Teams, Football, Boys and Girls Cross Country all finished the fall season with Ohio Capital Conference Championships while our winter student athletes are taking charge of the courts, the pool, and the ice rink.
Looking Forward to 2020!
We are thankful we are a learning organization that challenges itself to continuously improve. Our 2019-20 continuous improvement plan includes objective, measurable outcomes that will increase student achievement, growth, and well-being on our school campus; all while remaining fiscally responsible to our taxpayers.
I challenge you to join me in pausing to deliberately reflect, celebrate accomplishments, identify opportunities, and commit to the spirit of continuous improvement for yourself, your family, our students, our school district, and our community as 2019 comes to a close.
Again, thank you for all you do to support our schools. I wish you an incredible and joyful winter break. We look forward to welcoming all of our students and staff back as classes resume on January 6 for an action packed 2020!
