Questions About Your Student's Course Selection
Mathematics
Which Course?
Students will be placed in the course that aligns with the content they would have engaged in this year. For example, middle school students who completed Algebra I last year will be placed in Geometry, and those who completed Algebra 7 last year will be enrolled in Algebra I and will complete the second half of the content. School staff are supporting the determination of the appropriate course.
Pacing
Quarters or Full-Year?
Because we've had a few concerns shared about using this model for a course like mathematics, and because flexibility is our thing in the Online Program, we are also offering secondary math courses as a full-year option.
Electives
High school students will note that there are some new courses offered this year, and some not available. List the courses or course clusters in your survey that you are most interested in taking, or list the course you had planned to take and we will find the best match of the courses available.
Because the Online Program is offering such a broad array of elective and career courses, there will be some courses that students will complete fairly independently, without live lessons or small groups. Courses such as digital arts, art and photography, however, will have art teachers available to support their learning.
While we are not able to offer performance courses in the Online Program, like band and choir, we will be finding ways for students to stay connected with these programs. More information about these options will be available at the beginning of the school year.
World Language
Students who have been participating in the dual language program should also sign-up for their grade Spanish level course, as the approach of the course differs from the dual experience. As shared above, students will be moved to a different course as needed.
