Hawk Talk
February 8-12, 2021
A Message from the Principal
Hobby Family,
I want to thank the Hobby PTA for making the annual “Souperbowl” possible despite the pandemic. Every year, the PTA brings a hot soup to the campus for teachers and staff the Friday before the big game. This is a Hobby tradition that precedes me and my 15 years here on the campus. I truly believe that great families make great communities, and I am so proud to be a part of the Hobby community.
Please know that after much discussion and deliberation, the District has decided to disable the use of Google Hangouts (Google’s chat feature) for students. Effective Feb. 12, Google Hangouts for students will be disabled. The District will revisit this decision before the next school year and make a decision at that time on whether or not to make a change in the availability of this feature for students.
Students may see an error in the chat section of Gmail for the first 48 hours after Hangouts is disabled.
All students will still have access to Google Meets to participate in video calls.
As Always, You Matter

All Hobby students are invited to join, however a permission form must be signed and completed before a student may engage in the activities. Students are not required to attend every session, however are encouraged to do so. There are COVID precautions implemented to include mandatory mask wearing, students must bring individual water bottles, and a limit to the number of team members (5), and physically distancing when not actively participating. Pennies and equipment will be regularly washed and cleaned. Normal activity days will be Monday and Thursday unless scheduling encourages a change and activities begin at 4:10 PM and end at 5:40 whereupon the students should be picked up or otherwise walk home. Students should have left campus no later than 6:00PM.
There will be a virtual informational meeting this Thursday, Feb 11 at 6pm at this link

N-Genius- Help with Devices
Northside now has N-genius, a “Geek-Squad” located at the Kelly Smith Technology Center
to support student issues with the school issued technology. Therefore, Hobby will no longer swap out chromebooks. If a student’s Chromebook is damaged or malfunctions, contact the student hotline at (210) 397-0020 to schedule an Ngenius appointment. If needed, while the Chromebook is under repair, Hobby will issue a loaner Ipad so the student can access Schoology and be marked present in their classes.
