WMS Principal Update
Distance Learning 2020
May 11, 2020
Good afternoon Woodbury Middle School;
I hope you enjoyed Mother's Day weekend. I read recently, according to Insure.com, the current annual salary to do a mother's work was estimated at almost $94,000. This rate has increased dramatically due to all the extra work mothers are required to do during the current pandemic. I, for one, support this salary as I watch the daily work my wife does with my school-age children. Thank you to all the moms of Region 14 for your incredible dedication to our students.
Unified Arts Course Selection Guide
It's that time of year when we ask students entering 7th and 8th grade to choose courses for the next school year. A link below will take you to the course selection guide. We strongly suggest that students and parents review the guide together and make choices that most interest them. The course selection process will be open for students to choose courses from May 11 – May 18.

WMS Alliance Positivity Challenge
The WMS Alliance is sponsoring a Positivity Challenge for all WMS students. To enter the challenge, students can decorate anything visible at your home with a message of positivity. Decorate your door, a shed, the car, or anything else that can display positivity. Next, take a picture and post it in your specific "grade level Positivity Challenge google slides" presentation in Family. Photos are due Friday, May 15. (Please get permission before decorating!) Pictures will be judged for creativity and uniqueness. Have fun while sending a positive message. Here is a video with some samples.

Last week, the governor extended distance learning for the remainder of the school year. We are currently creating a schedule for students to come to school and pick up their personal belongings. This schedule will be sent out soon taking into consideration the safety of everyone. The hope is to have this schedule available for pick up starting the week of May 26. More to come.
WMS Social Media Challenge: In an attempt to keep students connected with our school community, we have created #WMSCreates2020 for students to follow. We challenge students and our entire community (parents, staff, and siblings) to create something using found objects or just your creativity. Think of music, art, food, writing, fitness, trick shots, technology, etc. Send your entries to ashuhart@ctreg14.org or have students upload to the WMS Family folder under the WMSCreates assignment. We are posting on both Instagram and Twitter under #WMSCreates2020, or you can look to Twitter (@Woodbury_MSLMC) and Instagram (@wms_lmc_2020). Show us what you can do WMS!!
Have a great week and stay well,
Bill Nemec
