Friedell Middle School
September 7 - 11
The Week Ahead!
Thank you all for your patience as we worked through item pick-up, as well as with technology in getting started with school! Please know that we are here to support you and your student in any way. If you are still struggling to get iPads setup, or into Google Meet events, please reach out to us at the Friedell Office: 507-328-5650. We are able to set up appointments for people to come to school to help, and we can even do house visits if that is more convenient. Our goal is to connect you and your student to their teachers and supports!
Please know we offer far more than tech help in getting to class! We have additional school supplies and an amazing support network of School Counseling and Social Workers to support with any other needs that may arise for you and your student!
We hope the second week of school goes well for all. If you have any questions about the information here in the newsletter, please let us know!

What if my student does not have all their classes yet?
Please remember that students can join all of their classes, and should do so to access the information about that class. Here is a link to a repository of all our class codes for students to access. When in the Google Classroom App on your iPad, simply click the 'plus' button in the lower right of the screen and enter the code from the repository for your classes! That should help you join your class.
Teachers will be working this week to confirm all students are in their classes. If they notice a student is not in their class, they will also 'invite' those students to the Google Classroom. In those cases, students will need to click "join" on the class banner to accept that invitation!
Please remember, that for all Google related things on the iPads, students need to use their isd535.org account. The account is their student ID number @isd535.org, so an example would be 5555555@isd535.org. If your student reset their Google Password, it may not sync correctly with the system, so please call the Friedell office so we can help them as well!

Weekly School Information
The letter and number days for next week are below! If you would like to see a more comprehensive school calendar, you may do so on the district website or with this link! There are a few calendars, but you most likely want to look at the Middle School Block Schedule Calendar.
Absences during Distance Learning (DL)
We will be following the absence process this Fall that we have typically used to excuse students form school. If you need to excuse your student from school for appointments or illness, you may submit that online or call the main office at 328-5660, and Mrs. Schnell will enter your student's absence into Skyward. You will see these absences reflected in Skyward Family Access under Attendance.
Please know that if you report an absence for illness, we ask for specific details about the illness (nausea, vomiting, headache, COVID-like symptoms, etc.)
Parents may now submit their student Absence online as well! Please see the document below to see how you can submit an absence through Skyward!
Free Lunch Program!
Help is on the Way!
We realize that there are some times later in the day when you wish you could 'phone a friend' to help with those pesky Math problems, or some solution in Science. Well, Help is on the way in the form of Extended Hour Homework Help through community education!
Please look for more information from Community Education on evening Homework Help google meets! We will start with a few nights a week, but staff will be present in a Google Meet to support the students in Math, English, or Science!
